From:  John Murray      <    grorr@injersey.com  >
My name is John Murray and I am researching my family genealogy.
My wife is Claire Holden and I believe a direct decendant of:

            Claire Holden & John Murray

I have extensive information on the Holden family and looking to add information about Susannah Bigelow. I have a lot of information including the lastest data from a reunion in Aug 1998 in Ransonville, NY where many family members still live. All of this Holden group are decended from Evander Holden, Grandson to Susannah Bigelow.
Thank you for any help you can give.

Most of the information about Ezra and Susanna that I have comes from The Holden Genealogy publish 1929. The problem is that it does not match your records. Your records show Ezra Shattuck Born dec 17, 1810 as the son of Deborah Bigelow and Ezra Holden and Not Susanna. The birth date of Ezra Shattuck supports the conclusion that his mother must have been Deborah since Susanna died in 1798. Please let me know if you agree with my conclusions. If you do please correct the information that I sent you and I will update my records. I assume that your information on death dates is accurate , the birth date for Ezra Shattuck is the same for both our records. His middle name Shattuck was his grandmothers maiden name.
Does anybody have any contact with other decendant of Susanna or Deborah Bigelow?

A fellow researcher has found and sent me a copy of Israel (#15923.7) Bigelow's will.  Israel is of the line of the 3 Isaac's.  She also found some biographical sketches of Israel and several of his sons and a son-in-law in a Madison Co History, copy 1883.  The biographical sketch mentions 3 not 2 wives for Israel:  (1) Eunice Kathron, (2) Miss Clippiner, and (3) Mary "Polly" Brown.  As you may recall, my great grandmother's notes spoke of a possible third wife.
The will mentions all living children and wife "Polly".

My name is Sarah (Pullen) Gura and I am researching Pullens who lived in Phelps, NY beginning in 1795.  I am interested in your Abner Bigelow (b. 1783) in Conway, MA.  Moved to Phelps.  Married 2nd to Eliza Pullen, then had a son with her, George Wyman Bigelow.  Do you have any further information on Eliza Pullen?
Also, your William Warren Bigelow who lived in Eaton Co., Mich. and married (1) Sarah P. Tower and (2) Lucinda Tower.  The Tower family is tied in with the Pullens.  Cynthia Pullen married Joseph P. Tower of MA.
Was your Abner Bigelow ever in the Guilford, VT area before coming to Phelps, NY?
My Pullen family eventually left Phelps, moved to Sodus, NY and them moved on to settle in Michigan also.  I was born in Allegan Co., Mich.
I was finally able to make a connection between my Pullens & Towers and your Bigelow family.
Your William Warren Bigelow: married Sarah P. Tower and then Lucinda Tower who were sisters,
daughters of Cynthia Pullen and Joseph P. Tower.
Cynthia Pullen was the daughter of Nicholas Pullen and Mary Jenckes (a set of my gggggrandparents).

If anyone is interested I can provide the ancestry for Egbert Magoon and also for Marion Purmort, wife of Rev Andrew Frank Bigelow. Thank you, Mary Woodman.
Mary also asks for password and about Vol I, which she ordered. I heard that Vol I would soon be available. HOPE SO!! The members section is still not working, so no passwords until it does.      I thought I would email and introduce myself to you.  I am Lorrie Stearns Farr, the Webmaster for the 9th Massachusetts Battery.  I am descended from Issac Stearns and John Biglo and Issac came over on the same ship Arabella from England.  I am the line of Stearns that the Bigelow's were associated with from the time they arrived in America. Don was going to meet me at Gettysburg and he was going to do a photo shoot for your family newsletter on the 9th Massachusetts  Battery.  We really got into the geneaology part because I have the Stearns side all researched and documented...it was through an email from the Great Great Nephew of John Bigelow that this all started. The names in his family and mine were too close especially when dates started coinciding.
Don and I had emailed quite extensively up until his death.  I was saddened when his wife emailed me to tell me he had passed away.  I had no idea of his cancer and he never let on.  He used to email me from his hospital bed but never let on why he was in the hospital. I had helped Don with the information on Captain John Bigelow for his web site.

From:   Jeff Day    <  jddakota@usa.net  >
I read with interest the information you have posted on your web page in regards to John Day. I've traced my family back to a long line of John Day's (Sr., Jr., John Henry Day) back to Delaware County NY in 1790 where John Sr had settled, presumably from CT but I have not firmly established the fact since the only info I've been able to link John Sr.  to CT was from a comment that my great uncle who still lives in Vestal NY was told from his Grandfather John Henry. Do you know of any sons of John Day of your lineage who carried the name sake to NY in the mid to later 1700's? CT seems to have had a
prominent group of DAY's in the late 1700's while my GGGG grandfather has been the only John Day that I could locate on NY state federal census for 1790.  If you have any information that could be of any help, I would greatly appreciate the reply.
More:
With your John Day and wife Grace having 9 son's, almost anything is possible. It's my intention to attempt to right the wrong
of my ancestors and document what I possibly can. My next attempt will be with the LDS History Center's to see if any documentation exists on my John Day of Delaware County in the mid 1700's. The time frames are right between your
family and mine but only lots of research will find my origins. The proximity of Delaware County and areas of CT. which are known to have populated this particular area of NY are intriging. I did check the second site you provided on the children of Joseph Day so that only leaves 8 sons to go. Please keep me on your list of prospectives if you come across any other information.  Do you know by any chance what faith Deacon John Day was ? My NY family was predominatly Baptist. I appreciate any help that you can offer.

From: "  GUY A. BIGELOW  " <  GRNVALBIGELOW@worldnet.att.net  >
Last week (1/22/99) I was contacted by phone by a representative, Natalie Neurath, of the subject organization. She informed me that the History Channel producers were working on an upcoming program which will go into the subject of  quack medicines and "snake oil salesman" in America. Natalie had located the Bigelow Society via the Internet and was interested in what we might have available with regard to Healy & Bigelow (The Kickapoo Indian Medicine Co., New Haven CT). She was particularly interested in photographs, copies of illustrated advertising that appeared in newspapers and handbills etc. in those days. I told her I would have to look into our archives to see what we might have.
Two articles about Healy & Bigelow have appeared in Forge (Vol. 2, #4 -1973 & Vol. 25, #4 - 1996), however, there are no pictures or illustrations. When Natalie contacted me again this week, I told her I could not find any photos or illustrated material. I did mention, however, that the Society had been given two old glass medicine bottles with the name Healy and Bigelow and Kickapoo Indian Oil molded in the glass. Subsequent to the above, I got in touch with the editor of the New Haven Register via the Internet. I inquired about a feature article which appeared in the Register on Feb. 9, 1958 which, according to the Forge stories, covered Healy & Bigelow quite extensively. She answered by saying that a copy of the article was probably available for a fee and I should contact their research library. We have very little information on Charles H. Bigelow, otherwise known as "Texas Charley Bigelow" and he sounds like an interesting character. Purportedly he was a close friend of Buffalo Bill.  GUY
Update...The Bigelow Society has found some illustrations. See Medicine Shows.........ROD

Last July, I took a trip in my new RV and one of the places I went was to Eagle Wisconsin to vist the grave of my Granmother on my Mothers side. Her maiden name was Bessie O. Bigelow.  I found the main Bigleow family  headstone
in Eagle's OLD cemetary.  The only picture I took was of my Uncle Moody's grave as he was the only Bigelow I could remember when I was around seven. I did find my Grandmothers grave in Eagle's Oak Ridge cemetary.  She married a Will Stephens, but he passed away 2 years before I was born.  Thought this might all be of some interest to you. I know very little about my Mothers side of the family and am starting to get interested now that I am retired.

I believe you have hit the Jackpot with what you have on Ethan Bigelow. The Ethan that was born in 1833 and was married to Paulina Hare seems to be my great, great, great grandfather.I would appreciate any info you may have on his father,
Let me take this opportunity to thank you for your rapid response to my inquiry about Ethan Cook Bigelow. ( I did not know that his middle name was Cook until I received your message. My info was gained from my grandmothers bible. We have him being born in Halifax, Vt. in 1834. Having a total of five children. Most of his children have the middle name of Sumner. His mate was Paulina Hare  b..Kentucky  1841. His youngest son was Willis Bigelow b..1867.  When I was a young lad, I recall
Willis living with us for a short time before his demise. Because of the name Sumner being given to many of his children, I feel that there must be a correlation with the other Bigelows from that area at that time.Notably Thomas Sumner Bigelow who, because of his age could have been Ethans father, I seemed to have reached an empasse with finding Ethans father. Ethan died in and was buried at Chillicothe, Illinois.  (by your records in 1902. ) Whatever else you may have that will lead me in the right direction I would very much appreciate. I must, at this time congratulate you on having by far the best internet page
that I have ever seen. I can see the time and effort that you must devote to this love. I will also tell you that it has been a driving influence on me to continue my quest  for furthur knowledge of my heritage.

Here is the additional information that I have.  It was taken from "A Lawrence Family of Onondaga County, NY" compiled by Dr. LA Cheney amplified from data collected by Ella F. Lawrence and Lucelia T. Lawrence; 1934.
The page on Samuel and Patience Bigelow Lawrence uses the following sources in addition to the Bigelow genealogy:  Crissey's Hist. Norfolk; Mills Genealogy; Records of Concord, Killingly, Simsbury, etc; CT Men in the Revolution.
Samuel Lawrence died 10 Par 1793 in Norfolk, CT.  Patience was born 16 Feb 1798, and it states she died in Shaftsbury, VT where her son Bigelow was living at the time.  I will investigate that fact further.
Son Bigelow married Asenath Curtis and died 21 Jan 1818 in Marcellus, Onondaga, NY.  More information on him to follow.
Next child wasn't a daughter (as many have assumed by the name) but a son named Ariel.  He also served in the Revolution.  He m Lucy Wilcox and removed to Onondaga County, NY where late in life he married brother Bigelow's widow, Asenath.
Daughter Sarah b 12 Sep 1745 I have listed as named Patience and married Jacob Barber.  I will look into this also.
Other daughter Sarah b 31 Jul 1750 m David Barber.
Daughter Zerviah married Edward Case.
Son James m Lois Fuller.
Anyone interested in more info on this family please feel free to contact me, I have much more information on them as Bigelow Lawrence is my patriot ancestor under whom I'm a member of the DAR.  Mary Ellen Popyk MareBear64@aol.com

I just joined (renewed?) my membership in the Bigelow Society.  I was a member three years ago.  I was interested to see that the reunion this year will be in western New York as I am from Jamestown, NY.  I am hoping it will be at a time when I will be able to attend.
My Bigelow line: Lillian 8, Anson 7, Asahel , Cornelius 5 , Cornelius 4, Samuel 3, Samuel 2, John 1)Lillian, my great grandmother, m. Ezra Fitch Denton.  Some of the property purchased by Anson near Letchworth State Park is still in the family, so we still feel quite connected to the Bigelow line. Hope to hear more about the reunion. Linda
Reunion is still slated for Buffalo area on July 17 etc, 1999......................ROD

I was soooo excited to find your page that refers to Philemon Wright...I  was excited, now I am confused!! My information is different and it has completely confused me!!!
I decend from Philemon Wright.  As I know it he married Abigail (Wyman) and had a son named Philemon, as well....this would seem to be the Philemon who married your Abigail (Bigelow)...however, this is the line that I decend from and I know that the orginial Philemon Wright moved his entire family (all seven children, including Philemon Jr.) to Canada and he founded Hull, Que. and basically started Ottawa.  I have a family tree that says that Philemon Jr. had a son named Rudolphus (Ralph) who married Catherine Helena and had a daughter named Mabel who married Dan who had my grandmother.  I know it sounds a bit complicated, but there are too many similarities!!  The original Philemon Wright was born in Woburn, Mass. and moved with his entire family when he was 40 years old in 1799 to Canada...he made an amazing amount of money and all the children fought over thier inheritances in Canada....I just don't see where Nathaniel (apparently Abigail Wyman's husband) came from?? or how Philemon Wright Jr. could be in two places at one time?  Could you help me out with any of these facts??? Thank you sooo much for your time and your wonderful site!

Actually I'm on the LI Rooters list and got the message about the new Child GenForum and home page url. I descend from John Bigelow and Mary Warren through James and Elizabeth Child's daughter Patience who married Samuel Wood. This is a wonderful site! I was delighted to find it, as I have been working on another side of the family and had sort of put this one aside, now my interest is piqued again! Thanks! Lenore

From ancestor John Dwyer:
"she married a man by the name of Cyrus CHAPMAN from Stonington, CT, who relocated with his father Jonas to Knox, in Albany County around 1803 when he was 6 years old? I believe this Cyrus moved to Worcester, NY and married Polly (I know he married a Polly for sure, I just have no documentation with Polly's maiden name on it). They had 6 children: Judson Josiah, Mary Olivia, Alpheus, William Edgar, Julia Irene, and Lucia Maria
I am descended from Julia Irene (CHAPMAN) WILBUR of Worcester (she is my gg grandmother). I am dying to prove her connection to the Bigelows of Mass. and the Chapmans of Conn, mainly because I know they connect, but I can't remember, over 15 years later, how I came to write these connections down".

Off the top of my head at moment I can't remember line exactly, but it was john 1,(OK I had to go look) Samuel 2,isaac 3,isaac 4, issac 5, Freedom 6, Ittia 7, Elias 8, Hayes 9 Robert 10(my husband) Didn't have things
right at my finger tips, but think that is it. Hayes is somewhat of a mystery from age 3 until sometime in his 50s would

Dear Rod,  I happened on an article in the Harvard Magazine  today (I didn't notice the date, sorry), about Henry Bryant Bigelow, Harvard '01, Ph.D. '06, who was a professor of oceanography at Harvard.  His wife's name was Elizabeth and they had 5 children.
His father, name not given, was a banker. Where might I look for him on the family tree?  Which raises the general question for me, to wit:  If I have information about a Bigelow (as with Henry Bryant), is there a general index of names I could look up?  And if so, how many generations does it cover? Subject: D.F. Bigelow - paintings

From: "Heidi Darrach" <  future@pangea.ca  >
My name is Heidi Darrach and I am a Clearance Coordinator with Future Films Inc., located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
We are presently producing a 2-hour television movie in association with another American film company, Singer White
Entertainment of Studio City, CA and Paramount.
We have a shoot scheduled for this coming Saturday, January 30th, 1999, and our location will be an elite Faculty Club.
The Sets department has inquired about using 2 small landscape paintings in guilt frames that are signed "D.F. Bigelow".  They are presently hanging in the Winnipeg Women's Club in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.  They would be made available to us, on loan, but I first must find the copyright holder for permission to use these 2 paintings in our film as background set decoration.
After much research on the Internet, It is my understanding that Daniel Folger Bigelow centered himself on landscape painting in pastel and charcoal colors. I have also read that his works have been sold to The Arche Klio and other various women's clubs and now I suspect that he may be the artist who painted these "two small landscapes" works of art.
If you have any information that would help me with my query, I would like very much to speak with you.  I can be reached by
telephone at (204) 989-9584, by fax at (204) 989-9592 or by e-mail at future@pangea.ca

Subject: New Info on NJ Bigelows
Date:  Tue, 25 Aug 1998 07:59:49 -0700
From: "  James R. Barbour  " <  barbour9@idt.net  >
Hi Rod, I am descended from the NJ Bigelow's and have been working on the family line, ellusive as it is.  A cousin recently discovered some records which shed a little light on this line and conflicts somewhat with that in the Bigelow volumes.  From deed records in OH:  Heirs of Aaron Bigelow: Mary, Jabez, Sarah, Catherine, Daniel, John, Jonathan, William, described as all "brothers and sisters" to Aaron.  Aaron, Jabez, John, Jonathan were also most probably the signers of the Petition in Morris County with the same names listed, they would have been in their mid twentys to mid thirtys at the time of the signing.
Aaron's widow is Hannah, the record is not real clear, but indicates "widow Hannah", presumably referring to Aaron who the land records relate to.  By 1817 Aaron, Daniel, John and Jonathan appeared to have died. From these records we also know that sister Mary Bigelow married Isaac Beach who was b. in 1742, Mary b. in 1748; sister Sarah Bigelow m.Samuel Cobb.  Using Mary as a dob guide, her brothers and sisters dob's would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1735-60.  The
information was recently located by Bette Dickover also working on this line with me.  The source: Butler County, OH Land Records, Vol 2: 1816-23, by Shirley Keller Mikesell, printed Heritage Books, Inc, pp 30-33, 52.  As we progress on the line we will update you for those interested in the line.  Any info on the NJ lines from your readers might help clear up muddled information. Particularily, info on the parents of Aaron, et al.  It currently appears that they are descended
from Joseph and Mary Olcott Bigleow...seeking confirmation source!   Jim in CA with thanks to Bette Dickover.

I found your web site today and I would give you a 10+.  It has a wonderful format!  I have already added this to my bookmark section!
My Query!
Hannah Walker b 1789 in Vermont married Job Bigelow, (Paul, Cornelius, Samuel, Samuel, John) b 1785 Vermont.  I know nothing about Hannah Walker except what I read in the Bigelow Genealogy. (I have misplaced the information about Job and his family, so I cannot say with certainty whether this information is from Volume I or Volume ll)  I would love to learn the identity of her siblings and parents.

Its not your fault but you have some mistaken information on your Lathrop Family page. You might want to look at my Lathrop Genealogy page at   http://www.erols.com/jlathrop/genalogy.html
You show:
Parents of John LATHROP
Thomas LATHROP
Born: 1536; Died: 1606
m: 05 Sep 1575 to Mary SALET; Abt 1556 - 1587/88
Parents of Mary SALET: Robert SALTE ??; Gairch ST. ANDREWS b. ??
But the mother of Rev John Lothropp is not known. Mary Salte is the wife of a different Thomas Lathrop than the one from Cherry Burton, Kent England who was the father of Rev. John. Thanks for all the good work  Jon Lathrop.

Enjoying your web pages. Am a descendant of Lt Joseph Kellogg and Abigail Terry through Stephen Sr. My records are his sister's name who married David Bigelow is Mercy. Dates are all the same. My info came from several genealogies of the family and no sister of the name Mary is listed. However, I never checked this info against "Kelloggs in the Old World and New" Is this where you obtained her to be name Mary?
Later:
As I looked through your other pages I found that David's wife is listed as "Mary (Mercy)" on his father's page. On this page it reads that David and Mercy had no children, but on David's page it lists they had 4 children. Hate it when that happens. After a 500+ page book I did of my family and a 300+ page book for my wife's family - I found similar contradictions. Such fun.
