Saw the page on Henry 7 Bigelow, and was reminded of my family tradition that three brothers Barker arrived in Nantucket in 1700's.  I have the name Richard and Wade Barker, and the guess that they left for Long Island, East Hampton where they were allied with Fithian and Mulford families.  I pick them up for sure in Cumberland Co, NJ.

Great Bigelow Family Story. I was led to it by Don Wrighter in his search for Wrighters Lake,Wayne/Susq. Co., Pa.
Hozea Tiffany and family and John Tiffany and family of Attleboro, Mass.; on their way to Nine Partners (Harford, Pa), in 1792, stopped in Pleasant Mt. Pa, over a Sunday, to visit the Sam Stantons . John was so pleased with the area, he immediately bought land  and  built a cabin, a barn and the first frame house in Pleasant Mt.  All Tiffanys are carpenters. Hozea went on to Harford  and settled on land he had bought and built on in 1790 and became my GGGGgrandfather.
James 5 Bigelow ( he was a blacksmith) , his wife and family, settled  at Pleasant Mt.in 1808. at what is now Bigelow  Lake.   James 5 Bigelow had a daughter Sallie ( Sarah 6 ), John Tiffany had a son John, and the two married in 1808. A rather unreliable source, claiming descent from John and Sallie, says Sallie was 24 and John 25 when they married. I  don't know. John and Sallie had six children and I am sure they are all noted in your Genealogy. I found John and Sallie but will save the rest for another day.
Many Tiffanys descending  from and including Sgt John sr, (Rev. war) are buried in the Pleasant Mt. cemetery, but at this time I do not think there are any residents. The Bigelows, on the other hand , still reside and farm in the black muck soil, the result of enlarging Bigelow Lake, and I wouldn't be surprised to find  at least one blacksmith living on the farm.
Pleasant Mt. is some 15-20 miles from my residence in Carbondale, PA. I look forward to spending time with your wonderful Bigelow Web Pages.

Subject: Col. Timothy Bigelow

From:  Nealegd@aol.com
An ancestor of mine, Asa Harrington, fought in Timothy Bigelow's regiment. I am trying to recreate Asa's 8-year enlistment in the continental army through his pension records as well as diaries kept by other soldiers and books on the various battles he was in. Asa served under Bigelow up until the time Timothy was "reported deranged" on 1 Jan 1781. Thereafter Asa served under other commands, until he was discharged by General Washington himself, in 9 June 1783.
In your history, you mention that Bigelow was at Valley Forge. That has been a family story of mine as well. In my research so far, I can find no explicit reference  (muster rolls, etc.) that Asa or Bigelow was at Valley Forge, although it is said that their regiment was. Is that what you are going on when you state that Timothy Bigelow was at Valley Forge? Or are you a party to
other information that might be valuable?
I would very much appreciate any source information (other than the one's listed under your biography of Col. Timothy Bigelow, of course -- however what was the Forge Volume??? Does it have a title, an author?) I await your reply-- thank you.

Just saw your web site with the Grove Hill Cemetary pictures.  Nice work!!  My great-great grandparents died in Waltham, Massachusetts and I have a hunch they may be buried in the same cemetary.  I don't know if you live in that area or not or if you have access to a list of graves but I'm curious if they may be buried here.  There names were Major and Mary Schurman.  If you have no way of knowing, then that's fine and I'll see what I can research.  If you do have a way to find, I would be grateful for the knowledge.  Thanks for your time. administered medicine to the person the affidavit was for, so I'm assuming he was a Doctor.  I have not been able to find anything on your sight about this person so I am submitting the information as general interest to anyone who may be looking for this Bigelow.  He apparently knew my great-grandfather George W. see Samuel 5; Horatio Howe 6; and Abraham 7 for more info..........ROD 1/10/98
More:
I went back to my Bigelow file and came to the following conclusion that Samuel Bigelow died 14 Oct. 1820 for the following reasons:
1.      My wife and I repaired and cleaned the four stones in the Samuel Bigelow plot at Streetroad Cemetery at Ticonderoga, in Aug. 1997. So I have first hand knowledge of the stones.  I believe the three adult stones were all erected about the same time and all close to the death of Mary.  The three stones are all the same style, shape (round tops with  a half round border, with close to the same measurements of W22 1/2" H42 1/2" W3" .
2.      I have been able to date the style of the stones as of yet.  But believe Samuel's was erected near the death of his wife, which would easily account for his year of death to be off by a year and his age to be recorded on the stone in error.
3.      In the 1820 U. S. Population Census for New York, Essex Co., Ticonderoga, Samuel Bigelow is listed as head of family, aged over 45, with one male child betw. 10-16, one male child betw.16-18 , two males betw. 16-26 , two females betw. 10-16 , one female betw. 16-26, and one female 45 and over.

Note: in 1830 census white female 50-60 is living with son Stephen.

My ancestry goes:  John, Samuel, Samuel, Samuel, Ithamar, Timothy, and Persis Bigelow who married Francis Keith in Barre, VT, about 1832.   Their daughter (my gt gt grandmother) came "west" Minnesota and is buried in Elgin, MN.
I'm especially interested in any information you may have on Jedidah Hathron who married Samuel Bigelow in 1729 in Marlborough, MA.  I have nothing on her parents
More:
In case you want more Bigelows for your database, I'm descended from one of Samuel's son's, Ithamar, born 30 Jul 1745 in Shrewsbury; married Persis Barrett 16 Feb 1769 in Paxton, MA, and died 10 Mar 1807 in Paxton.

One of their son's was Timothy, born 4 Oct 1770, in Paxton; married Anna Earle in Paxton 15 Jun 1797, died 1 Feb 1838 in Barre, VT.  One of their daughters, Persis, born 8 Nov 1798 in Barre, married Francis Keith in 1832.  Their daughter, Ellen Keith, born 19 June 1833; md Irvin Rollins, 4 Apr 1859; died 4 Apr 1891 in Elgin, MN, is my gt gt grandmother.

Timothy and Persis Bigelow are buried in Barre, VT, and I visited their grave in August.  Persis (Bigelow) Keith's mother and grandfather Earle are also buried there.
And More:
Thanks for the wonderful information!  I (and my aunt and 3 cousins) got to Elmwood cemetery in Barre for the first time in August when we were in Corinth for a Colby family reunion (Ellen Keith married Irvin Rollins, son of Nancy (Colby) Rollins).  We found the graves of Francis and Persis (Bigelow) Keith, and also saw the large, relatively new monument to Oliver Earle, but didn't look for Bigelow graves there -- I'll guess we'll just have to go back!!
I'm forwarding your info to Susan Laing in VT.  She's about a 4th cousin, but also has Francis and Persis as ancestors.  Have only met her on-line.Thank you very much!  Janet Keysser

I was very excited to find your web site..I had no idea there was a Bigelow Society!
I am a Bigelow too.  Directly descended from John and Jerusha Garfield Bigelow.  I have the entire lineage and would be happy share it with the society if you want it!
My father was Clifford Wood Bigelow
His parents were Clifford Wood Bigelow and Helen Hoel Bigelow
His grandparents were Oscar and Hattie Parker Bigelow
(by the way your page is missing Oscar's death date ..4-13-1915)
Oscar's parents were Josiah Sanford 7 and Mary Ann Wood Bigelow (you have her as Woods, which is incorrect)
Josiah Sanford 7 was the son of Josiah 6  and Lucinda 6 (BIGELOW--15194.8) (cousins)
Lucinda 6 was the daughter of Jotham 5, Jr. and Mary Powers Bigelow
Jotham 5, Jr. was the son of  Jotham 4, Sr. and Persis Temple Bigelow
Jotham 4, Sr. was the son of John 3 Bigelow and Jerusha Garfield Bigelow
He was born on 5-9-1675 and..thats as far back as I can go!

My father Clifford Wood Bigelow married Joan  Ball Bigelow had 3 children:
Clifford Wood Bigelow, Jr.
Deborah Joan Bigelow
and me..Ellen Parker Bigelow
my brother and sister are both deceased with no children; I have one child
My father had two brothers, Charles and Josiah Parker Bigelow
Charles has no descendants. Josiah (deceased) had 2 children.
I obtained my information from the lineage research done by a great aunt when she wanted to join the D.A.R. Jotham Bigelow, Jr. was apparently a private for 28 days during the Revolutionary War. Jotham Sr. also served.  I have the certification of this information from the D.A.R. I would be happy to share all that I have with your organization and plan on
sending a check to join it.
Thanks!    Ellen Parker Bigelow
PS: Mary Ann Wood Bigelow was supposedly a descendant of Pergrine White (who came over on the Mayflower) and Sarah Bassett.  I can't find much on them tho..

Sorry about being so short on knowledge. I am just beginning to trace my family roots and the info I have is very minimal to say the least. The only information on Charles Bigelow I have is (no middle name) his brother was Joseph and his sisters were Izora Olive, Lilla Belle, and Phoebe. They lived in the Glace Bay area of Nova Scotia. He was married to Margaret and bore 6 sons and daughters with a partial listing of Florence Mae, Kathryn, Marjorie and Blanche.....That is all that I can find.
If you by chance happen across any of these names I'd sure love to hear it. By either misfortune or ignorance, this side of the Bigelow clan never kept any records of their family tree and as of now there are no living relations that I know of.
