Hello-
It is my understanding that you head up the Bigelow family history
society and the web page. Please know that I recently obtained an
old Bible, published in 1823, which contains the names of Jacob Bigelow
(1787-1879) and his wife, Mary Scollay (1793-1882), their children Henry
Jacob, William Scollay, Mary Anna, Catherine, and James Jackson, plus some
of their children's children. I would be pleased to sell the Bible
to any Bigelow descendant who may be interested for what it cost me -$100.
The Bible is in good shape and family history pages are very legible.
I believe this family lived in the southwestern PA area, though I am not
sure. Thought you might like to make your Bigelow folks aware of the Bible's
existence . Thanks - Nelson Harris ( harrisboys3@earthlink.net

That's an impressive Bigelow web site you
are running there. We are organizing a Carroll Beckwith art show in New

Beckwith's Gibson Girl painting was at your homestead.
I wonder if it still might be there, and, if so, it might possibly
be available to be loaned briefly for the art show at a major New York

Appears we are, indeed, cousins. Since I wrote to you, I found
out independently that Eliza Bigelow was my g-great grandmother.
My dad confirmed it. He said his grandmother always said he was related
to the Bigelows, some of whom he seems to have known, but he never knew
how he was related until I unearthed the information for him. (I have traced
my mother's family, also from Hesperia, to the 1500's in Germany.) It is
always wonderful to find others working on the same

I am working on getting the descendents of Horace Crofoot and Marilla

amount to, but I will send it once I have it all together. See

I found your web page to be one of the more interesting in the area
of family history that I have found on the Web, containing much more than
simply names and dates. However, my mother-in-law did some research
some thirty years ago & cites Samuel Warren & Lydia Cutting as
parents of a Lucy Warren b. 1716. Her notes are as follows:
Thomas Weeden - born in 1729 in Jenneville, Vermont and died June 11,
1824 at the age of 95. (He is buried in the cemetery at Jenneville,
according to Flower's "Soldiers of the American Revolution...") He
was married at Hartland, Vt. to Lucy Warren, daughter of Samuel and Lydia
Cutting Warren. Their son Samuel was born in 1759 at Exeter, Vermont on
Kingston Road. Thomas Weeden served in the American Revolution as
follows: Private - in Lexington Alarm, April 1775; Sergeant of Colton Mass.
Reg 2nd May to Dec. 1775; Ensign - 23rd Continental Infantry 1st Jan. to
31st December 1776. They also had a daughter Ruth who married a Lull.
Ruth had a daughter Belinda Lull who married a Barrows.
Her source mentioned above was 'Soldiers of the American Revolution
Buried in Hartland Vermont', Dennis Flower, 1908, Page 5, 7 Is it possible
that you have overlooked Lucy Warren, or have contradictory information?
I'm only asking, as from your Web page, you have done some extensive research,
and must be quite knowledgeable in the Warren Family history. (From the
above, you can see, my mother-in-law is descended from the Weeden family,
from England - Hartland, Windsor Co, Vermont - DeKalb Co, Illinois)

A tidbit of clarification: On your Fuller

She was indeed his first cousin, as proven by her father Dr. Matthew (2)
Fuller's (brother of Samuel 2) will which bequeaths L10 to his daughter

My mother is Priscilla Waite Wilkins, whose father was Ralph Blaine

In reading the two page on Eunice (5) Bigelow, I
detected a couple of dates which were transposed.
First, just above the second headstone photo, the reference to:
Morse, Ellis, b. Jan.
26, 1789........d. Oct. 15, 1896; AE 80 years....
Obviously death date should be 1869.
Second,
the last entry on Eunice (5) Bigelow page 2, for the same Ellis:
Morse, Ellis,
b. Jan. 26, 1798 ...came to Eaton 1796....d. Oct. 15, 1896 ...
Date of
birth should be 1789, and death 1869.
It is a very thoughtful and attractively designed page, which I really
enjoyed reading. My mother was Gladys Elizabeth Morse, and her forbears
are in the same Sherburne and Waltham, Massachusetts, Morse line.

I just found the Bigelow homepage and it is
quite impressive. I know you probably answer many questions, but
I can't seem to solve this on my own. (I have tried for about 2 months
now.) Here is my story: My g-g grandmother's name was Anjinette
Morse Atha. She was born 11/11/1844 (not sure where) and died on
April 20, 1909. She is buried in Clarksburg Cemetery in Bourbon County,
Kansas. My g-g grandfather was from Logan County, Ohio, so I assume
she must have been from Ohio
originally. His name was William Thomas Atha, born 12/28/1848
and died in Bourbon County on 12/2/1913. Anjinette's father's name
was Jason (??) and his father was Alpheus Morse and I am assuming that
his father was Joseph Morse married to Eunice
5 Bigelow. I believe the Morse's to be descended
from Anthony Morse of England. If you know, can you possibly tell
me if I am following the right line. Nothing seems to make sense
with the Morses as they have so many first names that are the same. Have
you ever heard of an Anjinette in the descendent line?
Any help would be so much appreciated. Thank you. Connie

and took a look in the index but couldn't find my missing BIGELOW.
I was hoping that you might have her on some index some place or might
know who might help me. She is
my great-great-great grandmother.
Her name was Rocksy BIGELOW and she married William MEAD
01 Dec 1803 in Pittsford, VT (the minister was Elizer Harwood) according
to VT Vital Records. She and William had 3 sons and 7 daughters and
I'm descended from
Charles Augustus MEAD, born 18 Sep 1822 in Pittsford, VT. according
to family stories.
The family spelled her name Roxani. No children
of William and Roxani were found in the VT Vital Records. Charles ended
up marrying Julia Etta CARPENTER who was born in Smithville, Chenanago
Co., NY so maybe the MEADs moved west.
Do you have any suggestions on tracking her down?
My wife is descended through Lydia3 BIGELOW (Daniel2, John1) who married
Martin PRATT. I'd love to be able to hook her BIGELOWs up to mine!

I am trying to do some research on my family history
and your web page came up as a link to a name, I'm trying to research.
Seth Paddock Storrs. Do you have any information on him that may
be of some use for me? I am African American and I had been told
by someone else that this man owned a plantation in Alabama and had slaves,
I am trying to find out the plantation name and names of the slaves he
owned. I was also told he had two sons, Charles Paddock Storrs and
another son who died in the Civil War. If you have any information
that may be of some help let me know.
Thank you, in advance. Renee

From: Diedra Morris DiedraM@aol.com
I just finished reading your homepage about
the history of the Baguley family. My mother was a Bagley from Texas.
I have a book called Bagley Family Tales written by Kaaren M. Perry which
takes our family back to Baguley Hall. However, in her book she states
that the Hall was being renovated and was to be opened to the public as
a tourist attraction since it is one of the "oldest timbered" buildings
in England. Also, it has an authentic Viking roof - the roof of the
Great Hall is a replica of a Viking ship upside down. It was supposed
to be opened in 1982.
I am now living in Dublin, Ireland, and plan to go look
for this building in a few weeks. Do you know anything about it?
I met a lady from Manchester who said she knew where it was and thought
it had burned about a year ago. Who knows?
Thanks, Diedra Morris

In 1951, James Maxwell Bigelow (9th gen.; son of
Nathaniel D. Bigelow and Flora May Kirby Bigelow ) -- I think he
may be my uncle once removed -- compiled a geneology that contains
info back to John Biglo and through the 10th generation. There is
little bio info, but there are names, birthdates, address (at that time).
I only have one copy so would rather not send it to you. However,
you may have some questions I can answer. Norma Johnson

Saw your Bigelow geneology page and hoped you could advise
where you got information about your ancestors in Brandon? I am trying
to find information on the Fisk and Douglas families from the late 1700's
early1800's. Funny coincidence is my great great grandfather was a Fisk
and supposedly ended up in Massena, NY. Is there some connection
between Massena and Brandon? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

My husband is 11 gen. from John Bigelow. I was copying the pages
from your site. When I got to Elisha 6 Bigelow, I could not access
his children, though they are highlighted. I have quite a bit on Elisha's
descendants in WI, including children for
Wealtha (3), Lucia (4), Cryton 7
(8), Arvilla (2 sons), Ferrand 7
(8). Also have offspring of Ferrand's children for several more gen.
Are you interested?? The last time I saw a Bigelow Society printout (abt
1987) the full names of Elverton 8
Bigelow's daughters' husbands were not listed. Since Ethel
& Minnie married Parkinson brothers, I have lots on them. My
husband is
grandson of Ethel. Let me know if you want these lines, and how to
proceed. I have Family Tree Maker 5.0, can make gedcom file for you.

Rod, I was going through some old papers that had accumulated
in my truck and found a slip of paper from a day when my wife and I had
gone to my fathers grave in Skowhegan. We came across a few gravestones
with "Bigelow" on them and wrote them down, knowing that my family had
come from that area. We figured someday we would be able to work
them into my genealogy. Some of them were in the line you sent me.
Some I have no idea. I am sending them to you and maybe they will
make some sense to you.

Ephrim and Sally Bigelow (this could be Ephraim

Hannah 6-13-1794 to 9-4-1855 (this is Hannah

We plan on going back to Skowhegan and checking out some of these and
looking for others. We really didn't have much time that day so we didn't
get to look over the whole cemetary or write down some of the dates.
I will let you know when we find any more. Dick

Referring to the book that
was published by "Bob Vila's This Old House - 1981" following the TV program
which covered the remodeling of Dr. Henry J. Bigelow's home in Newton,
I find no specific address given for the property.
It was, however, located on the top of Oak Hill which is a high point
in the Newton area. Current maps of the area around Newton show a residential
subdivision approximately 3 miles south and a bit east of Newton, city
center. This may be the area where the old Bigelow house is located. More
specific information might be obtained by contacting the Newton
Historical Preservation Association or the Newton Chamber of Commerce.
I have no information on contacting either of these organizations but you
might search on the internet. Guy Bigelow see Bigelow, Henry

Hi Rod, I am descended from the NJ Bigelow's and have been working
on the family line, ellusive as it is. A cousin recently discovered
some records which shed a little light on this line and conflicts somewhat
with that in the Bigelow volumes. From deed records in OH:
Heirs of Aaron Bigelow: Mary, Jabez, Sarah, Catherine, Daniel, John, Jonathan,
William, described as all "brothers and sisters" to Aaron. Aaron,
Jabez, John, Jonathan were also most probably the signers of the Petition
in Morris County with the same names listed, they would have been in their
mid twentys to mid thirtys at the time of the signing.
Aaron's widow is Hannah, the record is not real clear, but indicates
"widow Hannah", presumably referring to Aaron who the land records relate
to. By 1817 Aaron, Daniel, John and Jonathan appeared to have died.
From these records we also know that sister Mary Bigelow married Isaac
Beach who was b. in 1742, Mary b. in 1748; sister Sarah Bigelow m.Samuel
Cobb. Using Mary as a dob guide, her brothers and sisters dob's would
be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1735-60. The
information was recently located by Bette Dickover also working on
this line with me. The source: Butler County, OH Land Records, Vol
2: 1816-23, by Shirley Keller Mikesell, printed Heritage Books, Inc, pp
30-33, 52. As we progress on the line we will update you for those
interested in the line. Any info on the NJ lines from your readers
might help clear up muddled information. Particularily, info on the parents
of Aaron, et al. It currently appears that they are descended from
Joseph and Mary Olcott Bigleow...seeking confirmation source!
Jim in CA with thanks to Bette Dickover.
