Jonathan 3 BIGELOW

162    Jonathan 3 BIGELOW, son of Joshua 2, (John 1), and Elizabeth (FLAGG) BIGELOW, born 22 March 1679 Watertown, Middlesex, MA. He married (1) 11 June 1702 Watertown to Elizabeth BEMIS, daughter of Ephraim (Joseph?) and Elizabeth ( ___ ) BEMIS ( Ephraim was the brother of Sarah Bemis, second wife of John 1 Bigelow). They lived in Weston, which was set off from the western part of Watertown in 1713. She was baptized 1688; and died Weston 11 January 1734. He married (2) 19 (29?) January 1741/2 Mary RICE of Sudbury. His will, dated 30 January 1746, mentions wife Mary, sons Benjamin, Jonathan, and James, and grandson John Newton PARMENTER. Bigelow genealogy gives no date for proving of will. His wife Mary made her will 08 May 1777 and it was proved in March 1780. She mentions her sister Hannah STONE of Sudbury, and grandson John Newton PARMENTER of Murrayfield (now called Chester), to whom she left the greater part of her property.

Children of Jonathan and Elizabeth (BEMIS) BIGELOW, born Weston, MA:

1621+     Jonathan, b 11 Jan 1707; d before 1761 Charlestown, VT; m 14 June 1730 Mary SNOW; res Groton and Harvard, after which no further record. 8 or 9 children.

1622+     Benjamin, b 08 Dec 1709; d 3 May 1771 (drowned while fording the river) Winchester, NH; m (1) 11 Apr 1734 Mindwell COOLIDGE, who died 1735; (2) 16 Oct 1735 at Weston, Love WOOD, and after her death, (3) 31 Oct 1754 Elizabeth COLEMAN; res Weston and Lunenburg, then moved Fitzwilliam, NH. 14 children.

1623       Elizabeth, b "about the 9th of August 1713"; m 16 Aug 1736 in Boston, Benjamin PARMENTER, and had 1 son, John Newton PARMENTER. (see below)

1624       Sarah, b 26 July 1719; d 22 Nov 1739 Weston; unmarried.

1625       James, b 17 May 1722; m Sarah ____ ; res Weston and Worcester, then left his family, and not heard from again. 2 known sons.

All three sons of Jonathan were given to moving frequently, making the tracing of their familes very difficult. Bigelow Society would appreciate any data concerning children of Jonathan jr, Benjamin, and James.

1623  R3771, Elizabeth Bigelow, daughter of Jonathan (Joshua, John) and Elizabeth (Bemis) Bigelow, was born 09 August 1713 at Weston, MA.  She is probably the Elizabeth Bigelow who m. in Boston, Apr 16 1788 Benjamin Parmenter, by Rev Matthew Byles, and probably the mother of John Newton Parmenter who married in Lancaster Hannah Abbott of Lancaster (he then being a resident of Winchendon), 27 Sep 1774.

      I came to your web page by doing a search for "John Newton Parmenter" (son of Elizabeth Bigelow and Benjamin Parmenter).
      I wonder if you might have any information on John that you don't have posted to your web page?  In particular, I am looking for information on whether he had 2 daughters (one named Melinda and the other named Polly; both married to Christopher Penniman) or one (perhaps given name Melinda, nickname Polly; married to Christopher Penniman).
     I am trying to put together my Penniman lineage (my gg-grandmother was Charlotte Penniman Bartlett, daughter of Christopher), and want to see if I am on the right track in the way I am trying to put together the bits and
pieces of info I have gathered so far.
Thank you in advance for any additional information you might be able to provide.
