I would like the following message posted to the Bigelow query board and in The Forge.

Mary Ann BIGELOW, born abt 1815, married William WILLSON abt 1836.  The family legend says Mary Ann's father and brothers were doctors and did not approve of her choice of a husband.  It is also said that she is related to the Bigelows in the carpet industry and Herbert Huse Bigelow of  Brown and Bigelow.  William and Mary Ann appear on the 1850 Census,
Allegheny Twp, Venango Cnty,  PA;  from here they moved to Iowa.  by 1870 they have three more children:  Samuel Elija- b: 1851,  Israel-  b: 1853, and Lucinda- b 1857.  In 1856, 72 year old Martha Bigleow lives with the family.  She is gone by 1860.  Husband William is no longer with the family in the 1860 Census.  I am eager to find a connection to Mary Ann
BIGELOW.  I have descendent information to share.

From: "Duane David" <    wzbngpop@worldnet.att.net   >
I was going to contact you direct before I placed the query, but I know how many requests for information you
must get, so I decided to do it through the forum first.  I was really fishing for a long shot concerning Joseph and son Charles, but thought it was worth a try.  Unfortunatley we don't have a match according to what you have posted with the link you provided to your site concerning  Joseph 8.
Someone else requested some information about my Butler lines this morning so I have the information typed out.  I thought that you might find it as intriguing as I do, so I'm sending you a copy and paste of this information also.  It involves two Bigelow
families.  I'm still trying to find the ellusive Charles Bigelow that I have posted in your site's query section.
Thanks for being there for me.  Duane David
Thanks for taking the time to answer my query.  You said you were interested in my Butler lines, so I'll piece it together for you the best I can with what I have to date.  It seems that if I can just get past this one particular generation, I'll have it made.  I'm tracing both backwards and forwards.  I think I may have three branches now descending from Deacon Richard Butler, but still have to fill in some blanks.  Even more amazing is Richard's wife Elizabeth Bigelow.  I have another Bigelow/Butler marriage occurring 150 years later, and I know I'll find a connection somewhere.  Ok, where to start?....from Richard:

Subject: Electra Bigelow and Bentley Sabin

From: PJS <     pendon@execpc.com    >

Looking for info on the above... believe Bentley Sabin is related to my husband's ancestors from Dutchess and Rensselaer Co NY. My husband's family migrated to Marshall Co KS 1860s/70s - Irving KS (also lost to the Tuttle Creek Dam Project)... then they moved into Blue Rapids.
Bentley Sabin (who married Electra Bigelow) is s/o Jonathan Sabin and Mary (Dake) Runnel (they were married Susquehanna Co PA, she was a widow)... they left PA and moved near Seneca Lake in NY and then on to Niagara co NY about 1810. Jonathan is s/o of Capt. Joshua Sabin bc 1760 Dutchess co NY and Desire Niles... does this match what you have... do you have any other information? Capt. Joshua is my husband's direct line of Sabins.
We have been searching forever to find a Sabin researcher who descends from Capt. Joshua's children (there were 11 of them!). Do you know of anyone actively researching this Sabin/Bentley line? I tried the e-mail at Electra's page Stanley Wickman but it bounced back to me.

I am interested in common talents among Bigelow family members.  Particularly, writing

My father, Theron Fay Bigelow, son of Arthur Lionel and Hazel Murdock Bigelow, wrote a
lot of poetry and songs.  I have over 100 original pieces of my fathers.  His brothers Lisle

I am looking for the father and grandfather of Joseph Bigelow.  Joseph Bigelow and his wife Betsey Lammen were married 4 Feb. 1807, in Morris Co., NJ.  Their son, Joseph, was born 4 March 1812, in Warren Co., NJ.  I believe the elder Joseph to be either the grandson or great grandson of John 3 Bigelow, who was born in Hartford in 1679 and died 25 July 1733, in Whippany, NJ.

Just wanted to drop by and say how much i enjoyed coming across your Bigelow page last week. Especially surprised to see a picture of Glenn Rust Bigelow there looking at me!  : )
You see, he was my Step-father for such a short while. I am the youngest daughter of his wife, Annie. Actually, I believe I sent the photo, which was taken on their wedding day, to a Jane Roth, in Santa Rosa CA. and gave her all of the information she
need for her genealogy during that particular time of his life. He was a real sugar-bear.....and he made quite a difference in my life, as I was just going into my teen years then.  Between Annie, and Pop, as we called him..they worked very hard at making a home for the two families.  We were all very sad when he had a heart attack and died at Christmas time.....and it
took the new family quite a few years to adjust to not having him in our lives. Thanks for doing such a fine job with your Genealogy and your Web Page.

I am doing a search on the Bigelow family for a friend of mine. I have a copy of a letter that was orally given by Lucy May Bigelow to her daughter Marla Mae Carter when Lucy was 87 yrs old in 1964. In the letter she tells of John Bigelow marrying Mary Warren and of their son Joshua's marriage to Elizabeth Flegg. Then there seems to be a generation missing and she says, "Your great great grandfather Henry Bigelow born in 1794 and your great great grandmother, Julia Levanway was born in 1806. They were descendants of some of the colonists Bigelow." Can you tell me how this Henry and Julia were related to John and Mary or if they were even related at all? Also, I did some extensive research on the LDS Site and was tracing the
Warren Line, before I found you and your site. Can you tell me if a William De Warren really married Gundried Princess Of England in abt 1077 and if her lineage goes back as far as 190??? You may not know the answers to all these questions, but I wanted to ask to be sure. I don't want to give my girlfriend alot of wrong information, and I am fairly new with the genealogy, but run into very nice people that are more than willing to help. Thank you for any information you can give me on these people.

Greetings!  I found your name in the Roots Surname List, and I think we may have some interests in common.  I have a double Bigelow line in Watertown, Mass: John 1  (1617-1703)- Samuel 2 (1653-1732)- Mercy 3 (1686-1745), and John- Abigail  (1664-1754).  I suppose the most interesting question right now is who was the Sarah Bemis that immigrant
John 1 supposedly married in 1694: the widow of Joseph Bemis, or the daughter?  As far as I can tell, there is no evidence at all that the daughter lived past infancy, aside from Bond's assertion that she was the one who married John.  Can you shed any light on this?   John Chandler   jchbn@cuvmb.cc.columbia.edu

I only recently discovered that your surname and mine are derivatives of the same root.  I am descended from Robert Baguley (1550-1590) through his son Hugh (1580-1629) down to the immigrant Peter born in 1608 in Siddington, Cheshire and landing in Nansemond County, Virginia in 1635.  The name changed to Bagley during the 17th century and to Begley during the 18th.
Family legend has it that our earliest ancestor was transported to America for stealing a goose - and that the village was named for the family.  For years I have been trying to locate a village in England called Begley.

Samuel married Phoebe Rand
Mary married William Livermore
I have dates and other information on these Bigelows if anyone needs them.
My question involves the following excerpt:
Grace Sanderson LIVERMORE was born March 29, 1809, in Watertown; married there Oct 4, 1832, George, son of Alpheus and Eunice (Mixer) Bigelow, born Oct 14, 1803, in Weston.

Is Alpheus Bigelow's father also named Alpheus, born 1757?  If not, who is his father, and who is his mother?
Who are the parents of Eunice Mixer?
I currently have over 8000 names in my computer.  If you have a question, perhaps I can assist you. Thanks

I am Harold George Bigelow, son of George Royal Bigelow.  May I suggest a few additions/corrections for this website?  George was born 1 Oct 1881, Josephine is deceased, (I can furnish exact date), Miriam had 3 children, Josephine had 2. I am retired both from the Air Force and  teachng.  I was substituting in a middle school today in the computer lab.  I was fooling around on the computer and ran across your web site on my dad, George Royal Bigelow.  From home here in Firfield, CA  The only 'correction' that I have is that my dad was born on 1 Oct 1881. I do have several 'additions' however:  I don't know if you intended to provide the names of the children of GRB, but you can do whatever you want with this info.  My brother, Daniel S. did have 4 boys - George Campbell, John Douglas, David Harold and Timothy James.  My sister, Miriam, had 3 children  - Nancy Kay, Judith Lynne and Frederick Eugene Jr.  My sister, Josephine, deceased 11 Mar 1997, had 2 children - James Allen Hagerman, and Edith Ann Hagerman.  She married Ord Glen Hagerman. I have 5 Children - Douglas Hawkins, Mark Carl, Susan Ellen, Robert Ross and Matthew Royal.  My dad was an attorney in Olympia, WA  I forget what else you might want to include, being unfamilar with web pages/sites, but will gladly furnish anything else you might want.  My sister Miriam, is in a nursing home.  I do appreciate the fact that someone put  my dad on the net!! - Thanks!!

Hi: The Bigelow ancestry pages are very interesting, especially those of Michigan in recent history, but why did Yahoo give your pages as containing "Eldad Smith." I guessed I missed it. Can you help? My Eldad was from E. Hartford, CT but I have no idea where he was born (CT/MA) in 1740.  Thanks, Pat

You have Bethune Bigelow married Arabella Beattie.  I don't have much information on her, but she was the daughter of my gg grandparents John Crist Beattie and Charlotte Adeline (Adams) Beattie.  I have her birth (from family records) as being on 6 Nov 1867.  I assume she was born in Oakland Co., MI.  I also have Bethune and Arabella as having 3 children not listed on your page: Shirley, Kenneth, and Janice.  No dates, spouses, or locations for any of them.
Just thought I'd share this with you.  Best regards, Rod

I am a descendant of Thomas Hastings and Margaret Cheney of Watertown, MA. Recently I had contact with a descendant (a distant cousin) who is a descendant of Samuel Hastings and Anna Bigelow; Samuel was a gr grandson of Thomas and Margaret. Anna (as per Lydia Nelson (Hastings) Buckminster's "Hastings Memorial...") was a d/o Capt.  Joseph Bigelow
and Martha Brigham. Anna was b. 14 June, 1737 (Probably in Shrewsbury, MA).
I am doing some research fo the aforementioned cousin and would appreciate any comment on your part.
As an aside, there seems to be a connection to John Warren of Nayland, Suffolk through Phineas Warren and Grace Hastings; Grace is also a descendant of Thomas and Margaret Hastings.
Nothing urgent here, reading you Home Page sparked my interest. Best Regards  George Schafer

I have been working or my family tree for a few years now. I just got on the internet and in doing some searching I came across the Bigelow web page. I have a Wilkerson in my past, but I'm not sure if it fits with the one in yours . He would be a great uncle. I also have a Holmes. She would be my  great grandmother. Elizabeth b. 1 Jun 1835--d 27 Feb 1906. She and her husband were both born in England. I have a homemade computer printout of my tree and could send you a copy if you like. I also a a chart of some Gargraves back in the 1400/1500 I could also sent if you have a interest.

I just ran across your Bigelow site, and it's very impressive.  It will take me some time to assimilate it.  I tried to follow the link to Jairus, son of Jairus.  I am descended from his daughter Helen, who married Stephen R. Thorp.  I was curious about your information, since my Bigelow source has her dying young.  I have pictures and scrapbook item nailing her down.  I'll bookmark this and try to check on it later.  Craig L. More:
I got your message and followed your link.  Thanks for getting it repaired.  This follows the info in The Bigelow Family Genealogy, V 2. I have some fairly compelling evidence that Helen lived until at least 1938.  I have pictures of her, labeled and dated, until then.  She married Stephen Rowell Thorp abt 1870, and had two children, Edmond Lucian b. 1872, and Beade (or Bert) b. Aug 1873.  I have Stephen's scrapbook, which consists mostly of newspaper cuttings without dates or paper name pasted on.  There is also a letter to "Helen and Children" signed "Affecionate Mother and Grandmother, Margurite Bigelow", which was pasted onto the back cover.  I have attached a scan of this note to this message.  (see Marbig1 ) There is an obit. for Mrs Margaret Bigelow, 85, native of Switzerland.  Her husband, Jairus Bigelow d. 20 yrs previosly.  She died at home of son Lanes in Mundy township, Genesee, MI.  She had been a resident of Mundy for 54 years.  She leaves 2 daughters, Mrs. Stephen
Thorp and Mrs. Josephine Shaw.  She was burr. in the Whigville cemetery.  Over this obit. is penciled "Mother" in Stephen Thorp's handwriting.  There is an obit for Mrs. Dudly Shaw (Sarah Bigelow) mentioning three brothers and two sisters: Mrs. Joseph Stayman, Albert, David, and Franklin Bigelow, and Mrs. Barney Greenfield.  There is also an obit for Mrs. Josephine Shaw, b. near Berne, Switzerland in 1845, who came to the US when she was 5 years old, which mentions sister Mrs S. R.
Thorp.  There are other obits., some of which are or may be Bigelows, others of Thorps, and some unknowns, possibly freinds and neighbors. There is also another story, also undated, about Jairus Bigelow, 68.  It gives his results in farming three acres, two of them in onions.  He raised 700 bushels of assorted onions, 173 bushels of rutabaga, 133 bushels potatoes, 30 bushels corn, 17 bushels beets, 11 bushels carrots, 3 bushels parsnips, 5 bushels of white turnips, and 1 and a half bushels of onion seed, plus 1,000 head of cabbage.  It also gives his expenses for the two acres of onions, which with his labor included totals
$95.25.  I also have a copy of the marriage record for Eddie Thorp and Mary Stark which shows Eddie's father as S. R. Thorpe and mothers maiden name as Helen Bigelow.  If you want scans of any of this, let me know.
My descent is:
Helen H. Bigelow m. Stephen Rowell Thorp
Edmund Lucian Thorp m. Mary Stark
Ethel Helen Lulu Thorp m. Marion Edward Burns
Vernon Mitchell Burns m. Catherine Virginia Connet

I would be interested in any information about Mrs. Margurite Simmons and Lucinda Main, if you have any that is not posted on your web site.  Thanks Again      Craig Burns
