From:  Amy Finkel    Antiquesamplers@aol.com

I  am a collector and dealer of antique samplers came across your very helpful site while looking for information regarding this family. I currently have a family register sampler made by either Sarah Paige (b. 1813) or Caroline (b. 1817) circa 1828.  It mentions the parents and the date of their marriage as well as the births of some of their children ( it overlaps with your list but some children who died in infancy were not included) and shows a house which may be the Dr. Alfred Paige House in 1833 as shown in the book, Bethel: The Early Years.  I'd be happy to send you a photo for your files if you'd like.  I  have a website (http://www.samplings.com) with many samplers on it, however the Paige Family Register is not yet on the site.

Hi! I wandered onto your website as I have recently found a possible (strictly secondary data) connection with my Harrington's and your Bigelow's (Abigail Bigelow, daughter of John Bigelow (1617-1703, England to Watertown, MA). Abigail supposedly married Benjamin Harrington (whose father Robert (1616-1707 England to Watertown, MA might have been my 8th grandfather).
Anyway, I have a revolutionary Asa Harrington, who is my 5th grandfather and served under a Capt. Timothy Bigelow's co. of Minute-men, 1st MA regiment, Col. Artemas Ward's regt., which marched on the alarm of the Battle of Lexington, fought at Bunkerhill, marched to Quebec with Col. Benedict, fought at Saratoga, endured Valley Forge and fought at the Battle of Monmouth Courthouse.....(continues with an old letter)

Salutations!  I saw on the on-line edition of FORGE: The Bigelow Society Quarterly (Volume 25, #4, October 1996) that you're looking for any information on the lineage of one Charles H. Bigelow, alias "Texas Charley" Bigelow.
I don't know if this helps, but in the early 1960's, Gerald Carson wrote a book on American patent medicines and quackery called ONE FOR A MAN, TWO FOR A HORSE.  In this book, Carson identifies "Texas Charley" Bigelow's birthplace as the town of Beeville in Bee County, Texas.
Hope this tidbit helps you.  If I stumble across anything else, I'll let you know.  Take care!

Hi:  My husband is related to the Bigelows through the Sargent family and while looking at your pages which are great as a matter of fact I saw some things you might be able to add.
Lucy Sargent, d/o John and Mary (Kathan) Sargent, b 1777 Brattleboro married Isaac Bigelow 6 Feb 1794 in Dummerston, VT (VR)........I think you have his death and other things right but I read that his parents removed from Nova Scotia as early as 1785 and later they moved to Chesterfield, NH. I think Isaac Sr. and Mary are buried there but will have to check....I think I have all the kids right but forgot to right them down to check. But the other thing is this Isaac also married Electa/Electy Sargent dau of Thomas Sargent and Anna Stebbins...she died 9 May 1792 in Dummerston, VT (VR).....they had 3 children
1. ___ ,  born 14 May 1785 Dummerston; died 14 May 1785 Dummerston
2. Isaac, born 6 June 1787 died 1 Sept 1822; m. Sally White (I have more on them)
3. Electa born 19 Aug 1789; m. Augustus Wright (I have more on them)
Will have to look at your page again with my records and see if you are missing anything else....probably not but I did notice you didn't have a few dates or who Electa was... Best regards, Marge Howe.....Williamsville, VT

From: "Judy Harvey" <  judyharvey@worldnet.att.net  >

I am searching for the parentage of Clarissa Bigelow Argo ( ca. 1820-1863)
According to information in The Argo Family Revisited, by L. Wesley Argo, (1987), Clarissa Bigelow married William
Henry Argo, Jr.    William Henry, Jr. was born 15 December 1818 in Smithfield Twp. Jefferson Co. Ohio.  Between
1834-1839, the Argo family moved to Astoria Twp., Fulton County, Ill.  In 1841, William Henry, Jr. married Clarissa
Bigelow.  It states that Clarissa had also been born in Ohio in 1825. Clarissa and William Henry were the parents of 8 children.  Clarissa died in Jersey Co. ILL in 1862 and William three years later during the last year of the Civil War.
I have documented the above information, but have not located the Bigelows in Ohio or ILL.
According to your website, the name Clarissa was common in the family. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I am new to the internet and luckily found this website in my wanderings.  I would like to become a member of the Bigelow Society and share any information I have .I can be reached at: Lmarshallclu@aol.com.  I am looking forward to learning more about my Bigelow relative, both past and present.

Dear Mr. Bigelow,
My wife and I are the owners of a home in Allenhurst, NJ that was originally owned by Clarence Bigelow.  Clarence was the owner of Bigelow's Pharmacy in NYC until his death in 1938. That store is still in existence under the same name and is the oldest operating pharmacy in the country.
We are interested in knowing more about Mr. Bigelow's life.  We have found 2 newspaper obituaries (NY Times and NY Herald) that offers some information. Apparently, Mr. Bigelow started a Bank, and was involved with Columbia University as a Trustee of the College of Pharmacy. From what we have learned, Bigelow had one step daughter and some nieces and nephews.  If you have any further information about this individual, we would be interested in learning about it.  Conversely, I would be available to share what other information we have with you.
Thank you for your consideration.

The "Official History of Guilford Vt" says that William Bigelow Jr. married Rebecca Barney, b Oct 2 1751 d Feb 3 1781. I note that William Bigelow b 1751 Feb 20, son of Jotham and Mary Richardson Bigelow, married Damaris Hapgood in
1782 and had 10 children. Even though he's not William Jr. did he possible marry Rebecca first and if so did they have any children?  I'm researching the Barneys in Guilford.
More:
Thanks for your prompt response. The Bigelow web site is a wonderful job. If  the Temples had known that *Persis Bigelow* who married John Temple was a Beaman it would have saved us a dreadful trip to the Worcester Court House! Her parents were Ezra and Persis Keyes Beaman, by the way, but I didn't write down when and where Persis was born though it was in Worcester County--easy enough to find should anyone care.  The other Persis Bigelow, who married William Packer, probably died in  Preston, Chenango Co NY where her last children were born, but I've not tracked down the date yet--I found her children on the Ancestral File. Thanks again and I hope someone responds to my query.  Helga
More:
12/24/99...I have a theory, which I cannot yet prove, but it may make sense out of the marriage of Persis Bigelow and William Packer.  They married in 1785 and had 8 children, but the wife that is ascribed to him (daughter of Jotham and Persis Temple, b 1739) would have been much too old to manage this. I wonder if after Jotham married Mary Richardson as his 2nd wife and had William, Joel, Josiah, Abel who d young, Lucretia m Dean Chase, and they moved to Guilford around 1761, they perhaps had two more daughters, Mary and Persis. This would make sense of his will in 1786, leaving to daughters Mary and Persis, wife of William Packer.  Can anyone verify this?? (I haven't access to VT Vital Records at the moment, and they're not too complete either.) According to the IGI there was a Persis Bigelow born 1764 Oct 25 which would fit and Mary Richardson Bigelow would have been only 37 by then. It seems at least a reasonable assumption and I would love confirmation!
