Dear Rod Bigelow,
I was pleased to find your information concerning Folger A. Bigelow.  Several years ago I purchased one of his original
watercolor landscapes, and have been unable to learn anything about the him until now.
If you would be able help me find out more about the painting or the artist, I would be very interested.
Thank you.

When the people of Chicago Museum contacted me, they mentioned that Folger had such great promise as an artist. Even more talent (promise) than his father Daniel. see Folger A. 8 Bigelow........ROD

Subject: Israel B. Bigelow
Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 15:30:01 -0600
From: Bill Young   <  bill@ci.brownsville.tx.us  >
Sir,
I am president of the brownsville, texas, historical association and as such am engaged in some research on the first mayor of brownsville who was also the first county judge of cameron county, texas, in 1848. his  term as mayor began in 1850. his name was israel b. bigelow and he hailed from colchester, cn. his father was purportedly a baptist preacher there. he died in brownsville in 1869.  we  have several antique photographic images that could be israel b.bigelow. i'm hoping there is a slim chance that some of his living descendants may have a photo of him?  he was a character to say the least. evidence of him exists in the minutes of the county commissioners court and the newspaper ads he placed as a lawyer. he first shows up on the border in 1846 at the time of the mexican war . . . advertising in a matamoros, mexico, newspaper that he has two barrels of lard for sale.
More from Bill:
You might be interested in a book titled "letters from brownsville" written by a woman named chapman. she knew isreal b. bigelow and there are many references to him .. including some interesting observations about the man and his personality. also,
our historical association  has a photo of israel bigelow's house in brownsville, taken in the early 1860s. it was alternately a union and confederate hospital since brownsville changed hands during the course of the  war.
israel bigelow served simultaneously as mayor of brownsville and county judge of cameron county. when he was not holding office, he served as road superintendent and leased office space to county government. he practiced law in brownsville, advertising his office "in the muddiest part of town". we have photos of that street at that time, but we are unsure just which front is the office he speaks of. I was mistaken about his father being a preacher; ms. chapman refers to him as "deacon bigelow" of  the baptist church in colchester, ct.
anyway, any help you could give in fleshing out an image of israel b. bigelow would be much appreciated. at city hall in
brownsville, we have a gallery of past mayors and bigelow's picture is conspicuously absent. maybe you can help rectify that.
best regards . . . bill young

I made a brief visit to Baguley Hall two weeks ago. It was interesting to see that the area known as " Baguley " still exists ,
and is sign posted as you leave the motorway . I have been passed this spot very many times on the motorway ,heading into
Manchester but had never heard of an area called Baguley ......many thanks to the Bigelow Society educating me !
Unfortunately I was unable to gain access to the Hall , as it is fenced off, but I am happy to say that the gardens are still being well maintained . A large hoarding states the property is the responsibility of " English Heritage " and that money is available to help restore the property if someone can develop a realistic plan for its development . When time allows I will investigate this in more detail.
It would be nice to see  the web page for Josiah, amended to show his date and place of death , and to have little Eugene's name added to the list of his children , plus the children's birth dates. I now have the photographs of Rosalie and William Henry Bigelow. I have taken a normal photograph of Rosalie's Daguerreotype image , as I did not think the image could be scanned as it is a mirror like image.

"Excited" is not enough to express the feeling I have had for the last four hours exploring your, "our", family stories this early AM.  I feel as if I have found long lost family, as I am one of the Baguley decendants. My grandfather completed an extensive research many years ago, traveling throughout England and other lands.  I remember many of the names and places you have written about from hearing about them as a child.  I have a book he wrote however that is very informative.  I never did recieve the copy of our history as was promised to my mother a long time ago, but now I am determined to track it down.  I am going to join your society and will begin a totally new experience in helping to document family history, something I must admit I didn't know much about until now.  I have many cousins but none of which I saw had written to your comments section.  Did I say I was excited?  I have tears in my eyes.  I will look forward to contact from you.

Sincerely, Pamela Brown Haeussler, only child and daughter of Phyllis Marie Baguley Brown, first born and only daughter of
Irl Leslie Baguley, born to John and Rebecca Baguley of Liverpool, England, landing in Montreal, Que., then settling in Tawas City, Mi.1888, and theinfo goes on and on.

I may be contacted at: 1705 Gretchen Avenue, Grand Island, Nebraska

Phone: 308-382-7471.   Email: pamela@hamilton.net
Let me end with the dedication passage from my grandfathers book:

"I remember walking with my father
near the white pine that smoldered in shade
hunched and crushed at the end of the wood...
He bent over to tie the shoe that I lifted to his knee.

What if the world is filled with stories?
we hear only a few, live fewer,
and most that we live or hear
      solve nothing, lead nowhere.

But the pine appears again, rooted in dreamed tears,
      yes, each branch, each needle
      its own true story, yours,
      mine, ours to tell."

I know and am pleased to have information I can give you to add to your
fantastic work.
I didn't believe there would be much of an interest, until this very morning.
Thank you again.  I feel alive again.  Sincerely, Pamela Haeussler

I am Harold George Bigelow, son of George Royal Bigelow.  May I suggest a few additions/corrections for this website?  George was born 1 Oct 1881, Josephine is deceased, (I can furnish exact date), Miriam had 3 children, Josephine had 2. I am retired both from the Air Force and  teaching.  I was substituting in a middle school today in the computer lab.  I was fooling around on the computer and ran across your web site on my dad, George Royal Bigelow.  From home here in Firfield, CA  The only 'correction' that I have is that my dad was born on 1 Oct 1881. I do have several 'additions' however:  I don't know if you intended to provide the names of the children of GRB, but you can do whatever you want with this info.  My brother, Daniel S. did have 4 boys - George Campbell, John Douglas, David Harold and Timothy James.  My sister, Miriam, had 3 children  - Nancy Kay, Judith Lynne and Frederick Eugene Jr.  My sister, Josephine, deceased 11 Mar 1997, had 2 children - James Allen Hagerman, and Edith Ann Hagerman.  She married Ord Glen Hagerman. I have 5 Children - Douglas Hawkins, Mark Carl, Susan Ellen, Robert Ross and Matthew Royal.  My dad was an attorney in Olympia, WA  I forget what else you might want to include, being unfamilar with web pages/sites, but will gladly furnish anything else you might want.  My sister Miriam, is in a nursing home.  I do appreciate the fact that someone put  my dad on the net!! - Thanks!!

Hello!  I hope you can provide some data missing from my genealogy of the Colburn family.  My husband's great great grandfather, Ephraim Colburn,b.Jan. 1, 1777 in Leominster, Mass. married Hannah Bigelow, Daughter of Nathaniel Bigelow and Susannah Jennings.  She was born in 1780.  The marriage took place in Leominster on Aug. 17, 1800. Among the children born of this marriage, were 2 sons named Ephraim.  The first was born in Feb. 1803 and apparently died young.  The second, my husband's great grandfather was born May 20, 1821, but where?  The published genealogy of the Colburn family ends our line with the firstborn Ephraim. Would like to document the place of birth of our Ephraim since all we have at present are family Bible records.  Any information would be most appreciated.  Thank you!

From: John Bigelow       jackyyyy@netcom.ca

My name is John Bigelow.  I found the site this morning, quite by accident, and have since spent
most of the day, totally mesmerized by it all.  Its trully wonderful.  Anyway, I just wanted to
pass a message along about my roots and see if that helps anyone at all.

I was born in Liverpool, England in 1958.  My dad is John, his dad is John, etc, forever.  I am
now living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  My dad researched our familly tree when I was a boy,
and in Chester, close to Wales, there is a place dedicated to 'coat of arms'.  My dad got a copy
of the coat of arms.  I cannot recall if its the same, but I emailed my brother the url so he can
research it.

Another note, our greatgreatgreat granddad was at Waterloo, and very proud we are, a cavalry
officer, and my dad has some info on it.

I have to tell you I was amazed when I saw the link to Warren because I have a friend in NY, her
maiden name is Warren, originally from Nebraska.  She told me about a 'bigelow and warren' road
there.  I cannot remember which town it is.  I will check up on this, so I will confirm and
email you when I find out.

Again, a wonderful site and all the best with your research.  I have bookmarked the site and
sent the URL to my familly in England and my daughter who lives in France.  She will be so
thrilled, I am sure.

Many thanks

The Morse Society has them married 4 May 1780. She was listed as in Boylston, Mass.

Please assist us in the correct data on the two above for our 1903 records seem to be out of step and we are trying to make corrections to the old records. Please refer to sources.

From: "Kesteris, Robert" <  Robert.Kesteris@AIG.com  >

My son has chosen Dr. Bigelow as the subject of his research paper/presentation which is due October 26, 1999.  My son, Ryan, attends George Street Public School in Aurora, Ont.  And is in Grade 5.  He selected Dr. Bigelow as a Canadian who has contributed greatly to society and his country. His endeavours in advancing the study of cardiovascular surgery, especially in the areas of hypothermia research and the development of the pacemaker, certainly deserve our gratitude and attention .  In fact Dr.Bigelow's research is the reason why Ryan's grandmother is alive today.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide us with some guidance in our search for information relating to Dr. Bigelow's accomplishments.  Are you aware of any videos, working models of the heart and/or pacemaker, and whether or not there is anyone available to briefly address Grade 5 students about Dr. Bigelow?  This is an important topic and it would be nice to make a significant impact on a group of young scientists.
Considering the short notice, any help that you could generate would be greatly appreciated.
Yours truly,
Robert Kesteris
