QUERY from April 97 Forge:
I am trying to find
a solid connection between Israel J. BIGELOW (b 1794, d 1843 in
Westmoreland PA) and
his son Lebbeus/Lebbeig/Lebbens Miller BIGELOW (b 17 June 1828.
d 9 August 1894).
Israel died early and his wife remarried. Family location is around
Franklin/Oil City
PA. There were several cousins all having Lebbeus as a first name.
Any information would
be appreciated.

QUERY from April 97 Forge:
I know my great-grandmother
was Catherine "Kate" (BIGELOW) MASON but I do not know
for certain who her
parents were. Kate was b 3 July 1852 in Montreal, PQ, Canada, and d 2 Jun
1926 at Longcliff.
Logansport, Indiana. She m 1)16 July 1871, William H. MASON, Chicago;
m 2) 7 Oct 1908 Alvarado
H. VORHIS, Indiana; m 3) 3 Nov 1916, John T. MICKEY, Indiana.
We find only one mention
of her parents, shown on her application to marry #2 as Thomas
BIGELOW and Sarah
MCSWEENEY.
The Thomas BIGELOW (d 19 Jul 1863, Montreal) in the Society's volumes was
married to Rose
McClintock PILLOW at the date of Kate's birth; their child Clara Jane BIGELOW
was b 1 Dec
1851, just seven months before Kate's birth date, as we verified at the
National Archives in
Montreal. Thus this Thomas is not Kate's father unless Kate was illegitimate.
We need to learn
about any other Thomas BIGELOWs in Montreal in the 1850's.
Directories show there were numerous Bigelows in Chicago around the time
of Kate's arrival at
the age of 11 in 1863, and she may have been in the household of one of
them (she is in the
Tucker household in Chicago in the 1870 census). Has anyone information
about a BIGELOW
in Chicago (or in Canada) who might be Kate's relative?

I'm a writer from Columbus, Ohio, doing a story on Bigelow Prairie
Cemetery in Madison County, Ohio.
I'm looking for information on the family of Russel Bigelow, born Nov.
26, 1763 in Nova Scotia, son of Isaac Bigelow and Mary Chamberlin. I'm
particularly interested in information about his wife, Lucy Sanger Bigelow,
and his children Lucy, Polly, Grata and Benjamin, who are all buried in
the prairie remnant cemetery. Lucy the daughter died 11/24/1817 at age
28; Polly
died 12/10/1817 at age 15; Grata died 4/15/1818 at age 18; Benjamin
died either 9/12 or 9/14/1819 at age 2 and mother Lucy died at age 57 on
5/12/1824. After reading info on Abigail Skinner Bigelow, who died in the
Plains on March 1816, I'm now wondering if hers is one of the unidentified
graves there.
I'm trying to locate living relatives who can provide more information
about these six, how they died (three of the children died within 6 months),
and the struggle of this family trying to tame the Darby Plains. Can you
help?
Also, I noticed that the website spelled Russel's name with two L's,
while cemetery records show it with only one. Any idea which is correct?
Thanks so much.

I don't know a whole heck of a

secret. I do know that his father was Talbert Elmer Bigelow Sr. ,
son of Robert Bigelow. His mothers name was Mima Mallish, daughter

the fact that my father was born in Buckingham, Quebec and Talbert Sr.
remarried after Mima died. I also know the names of my aunts and
uncles on my fathers side. If it will help, they are Donald, Helen,
Wilbert, and Cora Rena. I have no dates, my fathers birth year is
even a mystery ( about 1933). That's all I know. I'm hoping

Rod:
I found your web page and would like to see if you might have some
information that would assist me in finding a great grandfather of my husbands.
I have been searching for the parents of a Benjamin R. Brown, b.1853
in Ohio for some time. The reason I think he may have some connection to
the Bigelow family is just a wild guess. My reasoning stems from
the fact that Ezra and Eliza Jane (Bigelow) Brown had a son named Emmet
Bigelow Brown b. 1851. The similarity here is that my Benjamin R.
Brown named his second son (my husband's grandfather) Emmet Bigelow Brown.
I was wondering if you think there could be a possible connection.
I noticed in your family tree that Ezra and Eliza Jane had four children.
Do you know if this list could possibly be missing other children? Or do
you have information that suggests that it is a complete list?
I know from the l880 census that Benjamin R. Brown was living in Delaware
co. Ohio with his first wife and son Ura (born 1875). My husband's
grandfather Emmet Bigelow (Ben's son by a second wife) was born in 1892
in West Va.
I can't believe that this is only a coincidence. Any thoughts
or suggestions? Please respond to the following:

A. Young), and the date of the newspaper was 2/2/1889. It stated
that she was 70. We all know how newspapers can get things wrong,
but the date on the paper is 1889. The dates given for her
on Israel's page in the Bigelow Society are 1832-1899. Is there
any way we can find out for sure? I have searched all over
and cannot find anything more about her. (I know this is the
same lady because her survivors are my grandfather and his siblings, and
the place of burial is correct.) Do you have any suggestions?

It has been some time since I was doing my Bigelow Genealogy. But I
am now in the process of making a new Bigelow site.
The reason I am emailing you is to inform you of a wonderful Bigelow
find ; ) (It is the 2nd. The first was a Bigelow shoebrush that I gave
to Don some years ago)
Last weekend, I was in a rare bookstore looking for some old Bibles.
For some reason a book in a glass case attracted my attention. When I had
the owner open the shelf, I was given the surprise of my life. The book
is called "American Poetry II" printed in 1829. The part that is so wonderful
is the dedication in the front of the book. It reads:Elizabeth P. Bigelow
from her valued friend Lucy Ann Brooks, Medf** ( I can't make out the last
2 letters) April 1839.
One of the best parts of the book is it has a beautiful lock of hair
in it. You can tell the hair has been in the book for several years. It
is an redish brown and appx. 5" long. It is beautiful. I just thought I
would share that with you.
If you would like me to scan the book for you, I will be happy to do
so
Sincerely, Debra Ashley

Hello - I enjoyed looking at your site. I was looking for the
early picture of Faneuil Hall in Boston, and found it on your site under
Faneuil Hall 1820s. Thanks.
One correction, though... the small Faneuil Hall was built by
John Smibert for Peter Faneuil in 1741-42. It was reconstructed on
the same design after a fire in 1761-62. In 1805-06 Charles Bulfinch
more than doubled the size of the building by adding 4 bays (window widths),
another story, Federal detailing, and barrel-roof dormers. He also
moved the cupola. So the early picture on your site is from
between 1741 and 1805. The second early picture is clearly after
the Bulfinch renovation.
Best to you.
