Hi! I was wondering if you could help me. I found an etching of
Babe Ruth by Reinhold H. Palenske, the printers were Brown &
Bigelow. I know that he worked for them doing advertising and he did
some original etchings that they gave away. Do you know
what years he worked for them? It would help in dating my etching.
Thank you.

I have not worked on this line for A very long time but have done a
great deal of
research in Mass on my line of Warrens. The purpose being that family
tradition has
it that my grandfather's Pingree line was related to Joseph warren
of Bunker Hill
Fame. I so far cannot prove or disprove this quote. Do
you know one way or the
other if this John Warren
http://bigelowsociety.com/rod/warren1.htm
and Joseph Warren are related in any
way? By the way I have to thank you Bigelows for my even being
able to begin to
find John Warren who heads my line of Warrens. I connect into
the John Warren
b.1678 and the 4th child of John(b.1622) and Michal Blois.from their
we go to John
b.in 1701 to John born in 1739 in Paxton Mass to William born in 1769
in Paxton and
married to Amey Eddy(daughter of Azariah Eddy, who comes from the John
Eddy line of
Taunton, and wife Priscilla(last name unknown). William and Amey
had a son John b.
in 1797(probably in Paxton) and this John married Lucretia Mirick who
had a daughter
Amy or Anna Eddy Warren b. in 1828 in Paxton who married John S. Chase
of Paxton
(son of Nathan Chase and Content Anthony of Swansea Mass). They
married in Paxton
in 1845. John Chase and Amy Eddy Warren had a daughter Carrie who was
born in 1856
in Paxton and married my great grandfather Almon S. Pingree of Denmark
ME.
With all the research we have done I have never been able to prove
or disprove the
family tradition that says that John and Joseph were related and if
so how, do you
know the answer to that? Thank you for any help. Joanne

There is also a picture inside the

was a relative. Just trying to

Hi Rod,
I have seen the work you have been doing on the Bigelow family.
In my search for my great grandfather
George W. Smith, I found him in Stearns county,Minnesota with first
wife Charlotte Bigelow. Her father was
Isaac W. Bigelow aged 58 in 1880 and born in New York. Charlotte
had a brother Horace E., another brother
James, sisters Nettie and May. I'm sure there were other's but
have not found Isaac on a earlier census. Isaac
W. Bigelow was a late entry into the civil war, aged 41 when he joined
up. I have sent for his military papers in
hopes it gives a list of his children and where he moved to and from.
He was a quartermaster for Co. G. 14th
Heavy Arty. NY.
My question is..., is it possible that he might be a son of Erastus
Bigelow, a brother to Horace Ransom
Bigelow? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Sincerely, Sylvia Anderson [desc of Geo. W. Smith and 2nd wife]

From: "Denise Bigelow" <dbigelow@prodigy.net>
I believe that John (Jack) C. Bigelow registered my brother, Todd Davis
Bigelow, and myself with the Bigelow family decades ago. However, I
do not
know which branch of the Bigelow Family my father registered us with!
Also,
I do not know whether he registered my twin sons, Sean and Zacharay
Bigelow.
I did not take their father's (Jonathan Kellogg Rogers) name, but kept
the
surname Bigelow, and so Sean and Zach remain Bigelows. They were born
in
Seattle, Washington on December 2, 1990.
My father, John Clarkson Bigelow (deceased 10/2000) John C. Bigelow's
father
was Lee Bigelow (who married Dorothy Girton to beget John and James
Bigelow), who started a Ford, then Bigelow Chevrolet, a car
dealership/repair shop and gas station (in Aberdeen, WA), supposedly
the
first which combined such services west of the Missisippi at that time.
As a
sideline, I should mention that my maternal grandmother, Heppie Plummer,
had
a direct lineage from Alfred Plummer, one of the founders of Port Townsend
and Masonic Lodge grand master of the State of Washington in 1892.
My dad, John (aka Jack) C. Bigelow had someone do research on our family
about 15- 20 years ago, and told my brother (Todd Davis Bigelow, also
legally adopted by John C. and Shirley R. (nee Plummer) Bigelow, that
we
were very distant offsprings of a Crusader family that settled in England
after being known in France as Bizalou (or a similar spelling). He
also said
that our branch recently crossed from the midwest to the west coast.
My boys are of an age where identity and family history has become
important, yet most of our local Bigelow family are deceased, and nobody
remembers where the records are, or if there are any remaining. My
father's
brother, Jim (James Bigelow) died in a house fire (Central Park, near
Aberdeen, WA) a year ago last May, and many family photographs and
records
were consumed in the fire.
I hope that posting this connects us to folks with information or
suggestions which may uncover more family connections.

This provides a history that shows Randall Baguley (b. abt 1578 in
Wrentham, Suffolk)'s father as Robert Baguley rather than the Philip
(1544-abt 1600) you show.
If you use the lineage at the pages linked to above (if they are correct),
the line goes back even further, to Sir William de Baguley, b. abt.
1260,
married to Lucy Corona, supposedly an illegitimate daughter of King
Edward
II. Loring Bigelow (more on him below) says, "I did dig out my records
to
try and help you - Wm. de Baguley that you refer to [b. 1260] - his
mother
was dgtr. of Hamon Massey." The register shows Richard de Baguley,
b. 1243
(before Sir William de Baguley mentioned above) having a son Ralph
who
married ___ de Massey, daughter of Hamon de Massey. Judging by the
dates,
they both could have married daughters of Hamon de Massey. The second
Bigelow Society webpage above has a note, "as to whether Hamon Massy,
Baron
of Durham [your register says Dunham] was a direct ancestor of Sir
William
de Baggiley (aka: de Baguley) still has to be established. If Loring's
information is right (and I don't know whose is), then Sir William
de
Baggiley's wife is the direct descendant of Hamon de Massey.
I know you got your information from Rod so I don't know what to make
of the
differences. Maybe you already have sorted it out and put your conclusion
Additionally there are some Baguley gedcoms that can be downloaded from
ancestry.com that appear to be other lines but use some of the same
names. I
haven't sat down with it all, and I wonder if anyone is crunching all
the
files available with whatever sources are given.
Any thoughts about this would be most welcome, as it will
help me to put accurate information in my gedcom and leave out anything

Dear Rod,
Thank you so much for maintaining this site. My name is Marc de Banville,
I am a French documentarist, living in Panama, and working currently
on
a 52 minutes documentary about Philippe Bunau-Varilla, who was a friend
of John 7 Bigelow.
I would like to know if you have some documentation on the John
Bigelow/PBV relationship. More precisely, are they prime sources
(letters, writings, interviews) about the crucial november 1903 days
and
about a previous trip in 1900 to Paris?
Last but not least. Philippe Bunau-Varilla mentionned that during his
1886 visit to Panama, John Bigelow came in with his daughter Grace.
I
looked all around, but it was impossible to me to find anything else
about Grace than a birthdate in august 1852. Who was she? What happened
to her? Was she really with John in 1886 in Panama, or was it Jane?
If you can help me in this investigation, I would be very pleased.
With my best regards
Yous sincerely,

Hi - I am presently researching my family tree, and know of
my great grandfather (x9) fought in
the war, yet looking thru all the names listed, I did not see
his.
He was Capt Andrew Edmunds..if you have any information re: him
could you please let me know as
I am unable to locate anything about him. I do know he was married
to Mary Hearnden ( or
Harrington ) and I have his family information ( his children
) but nothing on him...
Thank you for your time

I'm not really sure how I found my way here but I thought I would email,
just in case you might be able to help me. I am looking for an Alex
and Daniel Bigelow that might be living in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area.
Alex and Daniel are brothers, and I believe that they either worked for
a septic company 40 years ago, or it may have even been a family run business.
I'm guessing that they would both be somewhere around the age of 70 years
old now. If you have any information, please contact me.

Hello
I am writing about William Mumler (1832-1884) of Boston. He was
known as the world's first spirit photographer.
When he began taking photographs, he claimed that he was the chief
engraver for Bigelow Bros
and Kennard. This would have been around 1860-63 ish.
But the Boston Directory places him at that time at the Washington
House
at 221 Washington. Were any of the engravers working at the Washington
House? Do you have any employment records?
Finally, when Mumler was arrested and put on trial, P.T. Barnum
testified that Mumler's employer had warned him about the photographer.
Do you know of any relationship or correspondence between the jewelers
and Barnum?
I appreciate any help you can offer. Please respond to my e-mail address
at cristacristacrista@yahoo.com
Sincerely,
Crista Cloutier

Retired History teacher, Jax, FL. Do some Civil War reenacting.
Girlfriend mentioned old cemetery nearby.
Checked it out...the Bigelow Cemetery. Your website great!!
Some tidbits of info:
Jacksonville City Council 2002, considering ord. to place "granite marker
signs" on four cemeteries...."Bigelow
Cemetery" is one of them. (Ord# 2002-425, I believe)
Eugene Bigelow noted on your web pages as a "Confederate". He joined
the "Bartow Cavalry" under Captain
John W. Brady on 14 Oct 1861, as a private. This unit became attached
to the 1st Cav, Reg. Florida State
Troops. (What happened then, I will leave to someone else. If anyone
finds out...please notify me.)
Odd, four of the people died in 1868. Our "big" epidemics were Yellow
Fever in 1877. Small Pox in 1883, and the
worst... Yellow Fever in 1888 which caused armed guards to be posted,
the politicians to desert town, threats
against refugees from neighboring towns, mail to be fumigated, etc...
(Perhaps there was a lesser epidemic in
1868.)

Dean Bird

From: "Milo Dailey" <milod@trib.com>
.... Dear Mr. Bigelow,
Several years ago my wife and I were at a
school
reunion at Lenox, Mass., and saw a ring of a 33rd Degree
Scottish Rite Mason in an antique shop - and what was
purported to be a Masonic watch fob from the same
"purchase." I bought the fob, but the ring was both quite
expensive and - as a Mason who is not a 33rd Degree - I
declined the ring.
However, it was engraved:
Henry W. Bigelow
Sept. 23, 1884
As a Scottish Rite Mason, I would assume
this man
would have been in the northern Masonic jurisdiction. I'm a
32nd Degree of the southern jurisdiction. Frankly, since we
do have the fob - a necklace for my wife at this point - my
wife decided that since I'm a Masonic historic researcher,
I should find out more about Mr. Bigelow. A web site
suggests HWB was a 6th generation in your line - however
there's no additional info.
I fear my family is just
a newcomer - the earliest
records apparently are c. 1725.
