Subject: Hi!- Lindsey Sanford Bigelow

From:   LiliPad77@aol.com
Hi,  I'm Lindsey, 14 years old , daughter of Ronald James Bigelow , who is the son of Byron Bigelow of Boise, Idaho.  Ron , Ellis(my mom), Lauren(my older sister), and I live in Houston Tx.  My dad has a student from UT (University of Texas) working with him for the summer. Her name is Robyn Bigelow and she is from San Antonio. Tomorrow night they are going to dinner and its kind of obvious by the name they are related, distantly related, but still related.  I was wondering if at all possible you knew a way for us to find out how closely she would be related to us.  I'll give you a brief history from our sector of the family.
Byron James Bigelow born 1928 in Salt Lake City, UT married Marjorie Elizabeth Miller.  They had 7 children, my dad the oldest. Yeah, I know I'm asking for info on Robyn; I just thought itd be nice to give you a friendly hello from the Texas Bigelow Family.  Anyway I was just curious about Robyn, it doesn't matter how long it takes , I was just wondering.
anyway thanx for your time and i hope i hear from u soon.
Thanx and all my family says hello
Sincerely- Lindsey Bigelow

I am wondering if there is a sketch made of the Arbella, the lead ship of the Winthrop Fleet?  This ship was previously known as the Eagle.  My ancestor, Capt. John Johnson, and his family was on this ship along with, of course, Gov. John Winthrop.  I
checked the Winthrop Society web pages and could not find any reference to any sketch nor any way to pose such a question.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Rod,
Thank you for your great information pages. I have been using your sites to verify a family list of names that runs back from my daughters to William the Conqueror through our common ancestor Jabez (4) Bigelow who married Susanna Elderkin. I could go as far as Gale (5) son of Jabez and came to a stop at his daughter Elizabeth Mary. I can add to your list that Elizabeth married Nathan Gardiner. Their daughter, Lottie was my great grandmother. She married Ruben Willard and they moved to Dillon, Montana in 1889. They homesteaded a ranch in the Big Hole Valley and raised 13 children. My grandmother, Lydia, married Lorain Spencer. Their daughter, Hazel, is my mother. My father was Howard Lowman, another name from the 1600's. If you are interested in any of my list back from Jabez and Susanna, (through the Elderkins and Drakes to England) I would be
happy to share it. With regards,

Hi, my name is Nora Bartlett and I hope you can help me with the name Baguley.  In 1826 my great grandfather was born and
later lived  and worked a farm called Baguley Farm.  His name was William Marsland.  I know this has nothing to do with the
Biglow family name but I saw a reference to the fact that Baguley Hall is now called 'farm' and as it is the only building remaining just maybe I can get my sister to go and visit (she still lives in England, I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada).  I understand you have a publication called "Forge Is this published in the States and how much would it cost for vol.7 as this was mentioned as having a reference to Baguley.
I really was excited to read your family history as up until yesterday I didn't know the correct spelling of Baguley or that there was so much history to the place.  Thanks for your help, Nora

Hello, Mr. Bigelow. I recently came into possession of a wooden box, approx. 6-7 inches wide, about 19-10 inches long an about 1 1/2-2 1/2 inches high. It seems to be made of  an ornate type of fillagreed/decorative wood, painted gold. On the inside is a mirror--it might have had a velvet/velour lining long since gone. The interesting thing is on the cover is a printed image of a forest scene. In the lower right hand corner is the Bigelow name, printed as part of the picture. Can you tell me anything about it and if there is a market for items of this type? I appreciate any light/information you can shed on this. It belonged to my in-laws. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your Bigelow page....... it's wonderful to see so much about my newly discovered ancestors.
I've had a "mystery" on my Mom's side of the family for years searching for parents of my great grandmother, Lovina G. Pierce.  Then finding my grandfather's obit and death certificate, they both declared that her Lovina's maiden name was Bigelow/Biglo.  I still couldn't find her anywhere and even though she died in 1916 in Erie co., NY, her death certificate was elusive to me as well ------ until last week!

I wanted to pass my garden link on to you.  I live in Cleveland, OH and Bigelow Garden is one of 200 community Summer Sprout gardens throughout the city and county.  We are funded in part by Ohio State University, and blood-sweat-tear equity invested in the garden, which is now on its 5th growing season!
The garden was originally named the "W.82nd St. Community Garden", which was a mouthful to say and write all the time, so when applying for my water permit the first year, discovered the name of the street was originally "Bigelow", before the city of Cleveland incorporated the numbering system to make navigation better in the city.  This year, the garden was renamed
"Bigelow Garden Site" to honor the history of whomever the street was named for, if anybody in particular.
None of the residents (some of the families have lived in the neighborhood for several  generations) know where the name came from.  But I did want to add this piece of history to your geneology, as I too am busy doing mine (I have 6 generation back just from me, which may be minute in nature, but its more than the family ever shared).  I hope you will share this with the Bigelow family!
Sincerely,
Janice M. Lascko

More:
I am trying to see if there is a connection between my family and Lucy Bigelow Williams.  I found her picture  in the family
pictures with her birth date and the year of death on the back.  This picture was taken at Houser's in Michigan City Indiana when she was an elderly woman.  I have since found her in the Bigelow family pages.  My family connection is possibly through my great grandmother Mary Margaret (STEELE)  WALKER b. Aug 27, 1846  d. Jan 26, 1897 in Carleton Place Ontario.  She was married to a John WALKER and all we know about him is that he died in 1888.  We don't know birth place for either of them or where they were married or the date or where he died.  My grandmother Mary Ella Walker was born September 16, 1886 possibly in Springfield Illinois, however there is a picture of her as a baby under a years age taken at Robinson of Michigan City Indiana.  Any light you could shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have found a lot of info on the Chapman family of Wisconsin (my Grandmother's family), and combined it with the info from your Bigelow pages from Rosette Bigelow and Calvin Alonzo Chapman. You may not recall, but I am a great-great-granddaughter of Alonzo and Rosette.
Alonzo's name was listed as Calvin Alonzo on his son's (Hiram Agustus Chapman)marriage license application when he (Hiram) married his third wife, after the deaths of my great-grandmother and Hiram's second wife.
Interestingly, there is a Calvin Chapman in the Crown Point 1810 census, but my Calvin Alonzo would only have been three years old.  Might be his father, though.

Rod,
Having explored your Bigelow Family website, I believe I have something of  interest to you and/or some of your members.  The internet is a great place..most of the time!!!
I have a very small handwritten booklet that was done by "Sukey Rice" where she lists Births of her brothers and sisters, Deaths of several Rice and Bigelow relatives, Births of her children and a handwritten prayer.  Most likely written in the early 1800s as a teenager or young adult. Size is 3 1/2" x 5 3/4".
I would like to ensure that this is transferred to the hands of a direct descendant of Susanna Rice Bigelow who will preserve this original source document in their family.  She married Ivory (6) Bigelow from what I have found on your website stating the Source as Bigelow Family Genealogy Vol I, page 221-222, family 115182.C
This booklet was found at an estate in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine a number of years ago and is not of any interest to the local historical society there. If a direct descendent is not found, I will consider donating it to appropriate museum or historical societies in the Marlborough/Hudson, Mass. area which is where this family originated. Do you or any other members of the Bigelow Society have any further information on her descendents??

Subject: 1864 Steinway Grand Piano purchased by Mr. John Bigelow, Nov. 23, 1864.

From: Charles Hubert   <  chasup@home.com  >

Hi Rod:
I was wondering if the piano I'm restoring could have belonged to John Bigelow the editor, author and diplomat. The serial number on the piano is 9,400. see Steinway ledger below for first and second owner. According to the ledger Mr. John Bigelow was the first owner. The second owner was L. B. Laxton of Troy, NY. I haven't found any information on Mr. Laxton but I do know that the piano was in Troy NY at least until 1901 because on the side of one of the keys is written: "Ferguson, repaired, 1901, Troy, NY"
I purchased the piano 18 years ago in Long Lake New York. My wife and I were camping in the Saranac Lake area and I
saw the piano for sale in a "bargain newspaper." The person I purchased the piano from, Mr. Elwin Jenness, said that the piano was in the house that his family had purchased. The previous owner's name was Mr. Bob Donahue who was a music teacher at the local Long Lake public high school. I called the Long Lake school system and they think that Mr. Donahue graduated from the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY in the 40's and purchased the piano from the music school. When he purchased the piano I do not know. How and when the Music school obtained the piano I don't know either.
Anyway, that's the history I have on the instrument right now. Any info. you could add would be helpful. Thank you, and much appreciated.
