Benjamin 6 BIGELOW

 16228.6     Benjamin 6  BIGELOW, son of  Joel 5 ( Benjamin 4 , Jonathan 3 , Joshua 2, John 1), and Abigail (CALL) BIGELOW, was born 14 Feb 1785 at Springfield, Windsor county, VT. He married, on 4 May 1805 at Whiting, VT, Sarah Kise Belding (Baldwin on the marriage record). She was born circa 1784 VT, and died 19 June 1877 at Ernesttown, Ont. They moved to Toronto, Ont, and in 1821 he left home; allegedly his wife never heard from him again, according to the Howe's Bigelow genealogy. Benjamin, a shoemaker by trade, moved west and settled at Charlotteville, Norfolk county, Ont, and married (2) Hannah __ . She was born circa 1805, and was living in 1861. Benjamin's application for Canadian citizenship dated from Charlotteville, gives his correct birth date and place, leaving no doubt that this is the same Benjamin Bigelow as above. He became a Canadian citizen 9 Mar 1841, but had been a resident at Charlotteville for some years, according to a civil court case dated 1833. He died between 1851 and 1861. In 1861 Hannah was living with a married daughter.

16228.62     Joel, b 24 Oct 1810 Toronto, Ont; like his father, he left home (1832) and was not heard from again.

16228.63t    Mary Ann Elizabeth, b 26 Nov 1814 Toronto, Ont; d ____ ; m 26 Jan 1837 William Webster. 6 children.

    Children of Benjamin Bigelow by his second wife, Hannah _____ .

16228.64     Lucinda, b ____ ; d ____ ; m 8 Sep 1851 Joseph Blackenstoe at Charlotteville.

16228.65     Hannah, b ca 1831; at home 1851 census, no further record.

16228.66     Mary J., b ca 1833; d _____ ; m Amos Knapp and had issue; her mother was living with them 1861.

16228.67?   According to church records of Charlotteville printed at Hunterdon, NJ, a Finanda Bigelow was witness to the marriage of Lucinda Bigelow and Joseph Blackenstoe. She does not appear on the 1851 census, and the editor feels
this to be a misreading of the name "Hannah"
