MORE VOCATIONS FROM ST. BERNARD'S PARISH
                     Rev. Ivan G. Boyea was born in Lyon Mountain, New York, on January 20, 1944, the son of Ivan Joseph Boyea and Evelyn Benjamin Boyea. He is a graduate of Ellenburg Central School and completed his studies for the priesthood at Wadhams Hall Seminary College and St. John Vianney Seminary, East Aurora, New York.
     Father Boyea's ordination took place on May 24, 1969 at St. Mary's Cathedral, Ogdensburg, New York.  He was the first priest to be ordained by Bishop Brzana following his appointment as Bishop of Diocese of Ogdensburg.
     Father celebrated his first solemn concelebrated Mass on May 25, 1979 at St. Edmond's, Ellenburg, from which parish he entered the priesthood.  His second solemn concelebrated Mass was celebrated at St. Bernard's, Lyon Mountain, in which parish he was born and baptized.
     Father Boyea's assignments have been as assistant pastor at St. Mary's Cathedral, Ogdensburg; Our Lady of Victory Church, Plattsburgh; St. Mary's Church, Massena; St. Mary's Church, Canton; assistant principal and principal at Notre Dame School, Plattsburgh; assistant principal, Holy Family School, Massena; and presently he is serving as assistant pastor at St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay, with its mission Church of St. Jude in Brainardsville.
               Richard M. Shutts, son of the late Richard Shutts and Esther Gadway Shutts, formerly of Merrill, New York, was ordained to the priesthood on May 25, 1968 in Our Lady of the Atonement Chapel, Graymoor, Garrison, New York. The family moved to Homestead, Florida in 1945, where he attended school.  Before entering the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in 1957, Father Shutts was employed by the First National Bank of Miami, and later by the Homestead Post Office. Father Dick, as he is called, worked as a missionary in Brazil for six years. His main duty was as Diocesan Director of the Youth, plus teaching along with his parish duties.  He is presently completing his requirements for his Master's Degree at the Atonement Seminary in Washington, D. C.
                  Rev. Howard Philip McCasland, son of Henry (Benny) McCasland of Redford, New York and Dora Sawyer of Chazy Lake, New York was born in the loghouse of his grandfather, Philip Sawyer of Chazy Lake on June 27, 1918.  He was called "Howard" after the first man who came to see him as a baby, namely - Howard King, Sr. of Chazy Lake, New York and "Philip" after his Grandfather Philip Sawyer. His Godparents in baptism were Silas and Olive Varin, also of Chazy Lake, New York.  He spent the first 11 years of childhood at his grandfather's house, where his mother Dora took care of her ailing mother, brother Edward, and finally her father Philip. During this time he went to school at Chazy Lake School, now Earl LaMare's summer home.  His teachers, including the 6th grade, were Mrs. Lawrence Gregory, Mrs. Dan Gregory and Mrs. Howard King, Sr. As he entered the 7th grade, the Henry McCasland family of seven members (1 girl had died as an infant) moved back to Redford, New York. Here he continued his schooling at Sallaz Academy taught by the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis. He graduated from the high school in June of 1935.  He then attended Loyola College of Montreal, P. Q., Canada for one year and then entered the Diocesan Seminary, Wadhams Hall, at Ogdenshurg, New York. Completing his eight years of study for the Priesthood - four at Wadhams Hall and four at St. Bernard's at Rochester, New York   he was ordained a Priest on June 3, 1944.  As an assistant, he served at Rouses Point, Harrisville, Champlain, Black River and Rossie, New York. As Pastor he was stationed at LaFargeville, Altona and at present at Lyon Mountain, New York. He has served as Director of the Catholic Youth Councils in both Clinton and Jefferson Counties during the earlier years of his priesthood and as Diocesan Consulter recently.  On June 1 of this year of 1975, he will have spent three years as pastor of the Church where he was privileged to receive his First Holy Communion from the hands of Father Ovide Levesque.  His catechism teacher had been Elizabeth Pageau, the present Mrs. Gilbert Wells of Lyon Mountain, New York.
