VOCATIONS FROM ST. BERNARD'S PARISH
Sister Kathleen Ryan, S. A., Treasurer General of the Franciscan
Sisters of the Atonement, was born in Lyon Mountain in 1927 to the late Myra
Ida Brusso and Henry Ryan, Sr. Sister was baptized and received First
Holy Communion in St. Bernard's Chtirch before the family moved to Dannemora.
Sister entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement
in 1942, made First Profession of Vows in 1944; was graduated from St. Francis
High School, Graymour in 1945; and received her studies in Religious Education
from Catholic University, Washington, D.C. and Boston College, Boston, Massachusetts.
Sister Kathleen's assignments in the field of Religious
Education, Parochial and Social Work took her to parishes in Schenectady,
New York; Rockland, Maine; Camden, New Jersey; and Woodland and Arroyo Grande,
California. She has been Directress of Our Lady's Guest and Retreat
House at Graymoor and recently received a degree in Business Administration
and Accounting from Johnson & Wales Business College in Providence, Rhode
Island.
Sister Margaret (Dolly) Ryan was born in 1934 in Lyon Mountain to the
late Myra Ida Brusso and Henry Ryan Sr. Shortly thereafter, the family moved
to Dannemora. After graduating from Dannemora High School in 1951, Sister
was employed at the Dannemora State Hospital as a stenographer until 1955,
when she entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement at Graymoor, Garrison,
New York.
Following Profession of Vows in 1958, Sister received
a year of extensive study in the Scholasticate at Cobleskill, New York and
continued in Religious Education in the summer programs at Siena College,
Loudonville, New York and Boston College, Boston Massachusets.
She served on missions in Cranbrook, British Columbia,
where she was coordinator of the parish ecumenical kindergarten; on missions
in Lincoln, New Hampshire; and St. John, New Brunswick in Religious Education
and Pastoral Ministry. She worked in Smoky Lake, Alberta, Canada compiling
the Correspondence Course in Religious Education for the Diocese of St.
Paul. In 1972 Sister Margaret was elected to a four year term of office
as Secretary General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement.
Sr. Frances Clermont
was born at Lyon Mountain, N.Y. on May 8, l908. She is the daughter
of Joseph Clermont and Mary Fisher. She was baptized on September 3, 1908.
Wilfred Duquet and Victoria Cordeau were her God-Parents and she was baptized
by Rev. Fr. Charles Pelletier who was helping Father J.A. Hervieux, Pastor
of St. Bernard's Church. She joined the Sisters of Joan of Arc of
Ottawa on March 5, 1934. These Sisters work with young girls and with the
Elderly. Their new habit of 1963 is pictured.
Sister Yvonne Theresa (Yvonne LaRoque) was born in Standish, New
York, the daughter of Adolph and Ophelia (Bourey) LaRoque. She lived
at Standish for about five years before moving to Tupper Lake. About 30 years
ago she became a nun in the order of the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate
whose Motherhouse is at Marycrest, New York. Sister Yvonne Theresa
is now on assignment in West Haven, Connecticut.
