For many a long year I have been doing my
family tree. More especially my mothers
BROCKLISS line
I have put the name Bigelow in Google a
number of times and have only had little bits of joy. However I have
just found the wonderful Bigelow site giving
details of Volney and more particular his wife Letticia I note
you have the spelling Brookliss but it is
meant to be Brockliss. It may
be that I have tried to contact you
before, with so many lines going it is hard
to keep up sometimes? Letitia
and her husband are mentioned in
a little booklet by a distant relative and
cousin to Letitia, Marmaduke Brockliss, he wrote about his father
(Antony Richard Brockliss born 1820 )and
mother and his siblings, he also wrote about his fathers brother
William Henry Brockliss who had married Maria
Windwood they came to America with their two daughters
Sarah Jane Brockliss born 1842 who married
Oscar Wissinger in Springfrield, Clark County Ohio (Look for
Wissinger via Google, you will see that her
husband killed her - not so nice) and Letticia born 1846 in 4 Villa
Street, Albany Road, Camberwell
London. The little book (well more of a
booklet) told how she had married a riverboat captain Volney Bigelow.
I know they had the children you have
listed.... For Anthony Richard Brockliss put in Google: Douglas
County, Nevada,
or Brockliss Bridge - the area where
they lived I think it has been preserved, they had a farm but also
had a bridge
that people paid a toll to go over. .....they
are mostly all buried in the Mottsville Cemetery. (listed in
Google as well).
I was wondering if you or any other family
member knows if this line continued or did none of the
children of the above go on to have children
<>themselves? I see that Walter Henry had a son. I would be most
interested to know, as I would like to think that perhaps there are
some from Letticias line that have continued.>
<>The two brothers who went to America were joined at some point by
their father another William Henry Brockliss. I found>
him on a listing for a boat going to the
USA....We had always wondered why we could not find his death in the UK.
This family of Brockliss's I can trace back
to a marriage in 1576 in Northamptonshire, between a John BROCKLASE and
an Elizabeth MARSHALL.
