Horse Leaves Owner In Albion
Barre Center Resident Has Hunt for Animal
Albion, June 2 - Elmer BIGELOW, a Barre Center resident finished a Memorial Day celebration yesterday by a visit to Albion. BIGELOW left his horse and wagon in the Barnes drive barn, in Beaver alley, but soon returned and drove it away. About ten minutes later he returned and asked for his rig, and when informed that he must have left the animal on the street or some other place, he spent the afternoon, assisted by the police and several friends in trying to locate the place where he had left the rig. It was later said that when the horse was left untied on the street it started for home, four miles away, neglecting to wait for its owner.

Rod, I wrote to appr. two years ago with some Bigelow info: I have a little more for you.
I have found info on Clarimond M. Bigelow, dau of Oliver G. Bigelow and his lst. wife Elizabeth.
I found Clarimond on the 1850 Census of Cattaraugus co., N.Y. with her parents as a 4 year old; on the 1860 Catt. Census as a 14 yr. old; on the 1865 Catt. Co. census as a 19 year old. I next find her on the 1880 Censu of Benzie Co., Mich. with her husband, Henry D. Andrus  at the age of 34. I have recently found her burial record; she was buried in the Inland Township Cem., of Benzie Co., Mich. she was listed as a resident of Inland at her death, Her burial date was 27 Mar., 1892; I can't find a death record as yet. To my knowledge she and Henry Andrus had no children although Henry remarried and had a couple by his 2nd. wife. I will continue to look for a death record for Clarimond and will send if I do find it.
Sincerely, Cheryl Barnum

I am the great granddaughter of George Custer Bigelow. Son of Daniel K. Bigelow and Hannah Yancy. For as long as I can remember I have been told that our family was related to General Custer. My grandmother has letters from General Custer to the family. I know there has been a decrepancy on whether Lebbeus Bigelow married a Elizabeth Custer or an Elizabeth Custis. I can asure you that he married Elizabeth Custer. General Custer and Elizabeth were cousins. Elizabeth's grandfather Paul Custer and General Custer's great great grandfather were brothers. I've been trying to get on portions of the Bigelow website but it comes back saying that slic.com and simplenet.com don't exist. Just thought you should

Hello Rod,
Have discovered an old photo album at Frank's niece recently.  In that album there are some wonderful pictures (head shots) of:
BIGELOW: Cynthia Garafelia, Henry Clay, Maria Elizabeth and Sarah Louisa. (see link)
CROSSMAN:  Cabet Strong and Mattie Wells
EDGARTON:  Charles A., Charles Gardner, Hitter Whitcomb, Jennie, Mildred Morse and Sarah Miranda
GLEASON:  Dolly Childs (see link)
HAYNES:  Alice Maude (see link)
MASON: Rebecca
NOYES:  Ada Withington
PARKER:  Emerson Smiley, Millie Harkness and Nancy Parkman
RIDER:  Wilson
TOTHILL:  Augusta Emeline and William (see link)
WHEELER:  Ruth

As this is a family album, naturally am trying to tie the names into the family.  I see where the Gleason and Tothills and
Crossman's come in but have not figured the rest.  If you can shed any light, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I have scanned all photos into my system and would be more than happy to send them along to you.
Let me know.

I went to the Michigan Genealogy library in Lansing ....and found a book published. Once I hooked Hiriam up and kept

It's really nice when someone else did all the work and put it in book form. I went to the cemetery of all these folks listed

Her parents were: Lemuel and Hannah (Chamberlain)Ames.  More directly, I am descended from George's daughter,
Prynthia J. and her first husband, Truman L. Hopkins b. 1838 in West Canada, son of Orrin W. and Sarah Hopkins who
died in Newaygo county 1892 and 1893 respectively. She had two maybe three sons with Truman, Charles b. 1869 (from
whom I'm descended) an Edwin A. and a Norman E. .  At one point I thought one, but I've found evidence for both Edwin
and Norman.  My research is not yet finished.
I just wanted to drop you this quick line and will send more detailed info next week.  I would like to know though, where you found the information on the death of Prynthia, I've been looking for the last 8 years.

Subject: Susan Bigelow and William R. Rand (3-9-02)
Date: Sat, 9 Mar 2002 17:45:12 -0600
From: "Susan B. Naumann" <   sbn.pilgrim.gen@snet.net  >
I am searching for the parents of my g. g. grandmother, Susan Bigelow (middle initial may have been
"E").  According to OH census records, she was born in 1824, Baldwinsville, NY.

She married William R. Rand (son of Daniel Rand whose father was Daniel Rand of Harvard, MA).
William R. Rand's mother was Lois E. Tanner.

Children of William R. & Susan (Bigelow) Rand:

Alfred Thomas Rand, born March 12, 1844, Baldwinsville, NY (my g. grandfather)
Alvira Rand, born about 1846, Baldwinsville, NY
Otis B. Rand, born about 1849, Baldwinsville, NY

Later children, prob. born in OH: Alice Y. Rand, Ellen Rand, Willard "Willis" Rand and Fred G. Rand

This family moved to OH where, in 1850, they were living in the home of William's parents, Daniel &
Lois Rand (according to the 1850 census of Vienna, Trumbull Co., OH, District 142).

Naturally, my first thought was that Susan Bigelow's father must have been Otis Bigelow of
Baldwinsville, NY.  The fact that she named a son Otis served to bolster my theory.  Unfortunately,
there seems to be no record of her birth.

Any help will be tremendously appreciated!  Many thanks in advance to anyone willing to offer
suggestions or supply information.

I believe I am missing a generation in my lineage.
I have Charles Decatur Bigelow, b. 4 Dec. 1850, m. Florence A. Irons, d. 14 Apr. 1926 - listed as the son of:
Charles Chandler Bigelow, b. 18 Dec. 1807, m. Roxanna Sampson 20 Feb. 1829, d. 1 July 1890.
Those dates seem pretty improbable to me, and am thinking that there may be another generation between the two Charles.
Does anyone have any further information on these two, or verification of their connection?
Thank you.

The letters states that he William Henry 8 BIGELOW, son of  Josiah 7  is a sailor on the ship "Louisiana", I imagine that there must be records kept somewhere of the crew, and of the journeys undertaken by that ship. Can anyone advise me where I might find such information ?

married my GG Minnie Brown in ST. Louis Missouri in 1916. They had three Daughters Anita Bigelow,
Patrica Bigelow and Joy Bigelow. Anita died of Cancer in Dallas Texas in the 1960's. She was married
to a man with the last name Sparkman. They had a daughter named Peggy. Patrica is my grandmother.
She married George Harris (still up his family) in the 1940 in Carrizozo New Mexico where she still
lives. She had two daughters, Linda Sue (my mother) and Cynthia Ann. Joy is the baby. She married
Bill Gallagher in Carrizozo New Mexico where the live today. They had three children. Debbie, and
twins Lynn and Grey. My GG George and GG Minnie lived in Missouri, Oklahoma and finally settled in
New Mexico. They both wrote books about their lives which my family has. They eventually divorced
because GG George cheated on GG Minnie. He remarried to a woman named Ann apparently the
other woman. I always called her Grandma Ann. They lived in San Bernadino California until his Death
in 1980. I'm working on getting copies of both my Grandparents books so I can learn more about there
lives.

Dear Mr. Bigelow,
We have come across calendar pages (May is missing) that list Brown & Bigelow, St. Paul, Minn.  at the top of the
pages.  We are not sure but think they are from 1948.  There is not a year printed on the pages but someone penciled in
48 on one of the pages.
We are remodeling my husband's grandfather's camp and when he tore out the walls in the kitchen these pages were
hanging there.  Some are in good shape and some aren't.
Would there be any way of finding out when these are from?
Thank you,
Deb Holbrook

Just came across your web-site while looking up ancestors on the web and thought you might be interested in this old newspaper article.  I am Andrea Evans Shotz, the daughter of Robert Bigelow Evans (son of Hattie Bertha Pike
and Charles Warren Evans).  Hattie was a daughter of Horace.  I was also born and raised in Worcester and spent summers at "Camp Pike"  in Paxton. How are you related?  I'm just beginning my research on my ancestors and would be interested in anything you might have.  This is exciting! Look forward to hearing from you...Andrea

Does anyone know the names of the children of Melvin Franklin Bigelow and Eveline Burnham? According to the 1900 census, they were living in Alden, Hardin County, Iowa, aged 55 and 52 respectively. Eveline was the mother of 2 children, neither of them still living in 1900. They probably married in May 1868 in Alden, although Melvin was born in Conway, Mass., and Eveline in illinois.

I portray Capt. John Bigelow in the 9th Mass. Light Artillery Civil War re-enactors based in Northampton, Ma.  I do have his pension papers, many news clipings concerning his death, an original  copy of Baker's "History of the 9th" signed by Capt.
Bigelow, and an original copy of Bigelow's "The Peach Orchard".
Do you have any further information on the Capt.  I want to enhance my impression and would appreciate any information you could provide.  Thank you.

I was very excited when I came across the web site about Captain John
Bigelow.  I have recently finished my first historic novel about another Civil War
hero, General Albert G, Jenkins, and am trying to decide who will be the
focus of my next book.  My wife tells me that it has to be a Yankee, and it
turns out that John Bigelow is an ancestor of hers.  A family geneologist did a
family tree that puts her (Mary Louise Bigelow) as a third cousin, twice
removed if I remember correctly.............................

Hello!
I was doing some reading on Capt. Bigelow and the 9th Mass. Battery at Gettysburg, and I was wondering if you would
know if any schools were named after him. I attended Bigelow Jr. High School (now Bigelow Middle School) in Newton,
MA, and was curious if there was a connection.
 Thanks

BIGELOW in Hartford, CT Vital Records
Posted by: Coralynn

Your surname is included in the Barbour Collection of town vital records for Hartford, CT.
The link below will take you to a website with an incredible amount of data for MA, CT and MI, but CT is the main focus. There is
already a very lenthy entry regarding old records of Hartford, and now we're proceeding to put the Barbour vital records on as
well. Since this site is being added to almost daily, it would be a good idea to bookmark it. The title of the website contains 4
surnames, but don't be confused: this is the site with the Vital Records.
Scroll down to the Hartford listing. The CT data is in alphabetical order. Of course you may become distracted somewhat by all
the other vital records contained on this website, but this is a good thing!!
If any of your ancestors lived in Middlesex County, CT, there are many entries for that area. Near the top of the Resource listings
are Probates and Wills, with 204 Probates transcribed.
