# 1292. Joseph 4, son of
Joseph 3 ( Jonathan 2, John
1) BIGELOW and Sarah (SPENCER) BIGELOW, was born 14 August
1717 at Hartford, Hartford co, CT. He was married 12 March 1745 to Mary WELLS,
daughter of John and Mary (CURTIS) WELLS. She was born Wethersfield, CT 12
July 1719.They lived in Hartford, but little is known of this family. Mary
died 29 April 1790, aged 71 years. Joseph died 07 December 1810 in his 94th
year, according to records there. Howe's Bigelow Family of America
attributes to them four children, but gives few sources for his information.
He quotes an order of 05 February 1788 to distribute lands of Joseph Bigelow,
said lands situated in Colebrook, CT, but does not state his proof this is
the same Joseph. He also mentions children "living in 1772" but does not state
evidence they are children of Joseph.
1790 census: CT-Hartford-Hartford-Joseph Bigelow: 2-0-0-0-0.
Combining known records with Howe's data, we suggest that we retain the family as presented in Howe (but note comments above):
12921 daughter died 06 Oct 1758 Hartford..
12922 Elisha, "living in 1772."
12923 Joseph, b ___ ; d 19 Feb 1813 Nassau, Rensselaer co, NY; m Mary ____ ; an infant died in Hartford, and wife Mary, plus two adult children, all died in 1813 within a few weeks of each other, as did Joseph, according to obituaries in NY & CT papers. Probably the same Joseph Bigelow who served in Rev War from NY.
12924 Mary, "living in 1772."
